The 3M 2296 filter is an advanced P100 bayonet filter that combines high-efficiency particulate filtration (≥ 99.97%) with additional protection against nuisance concentrations of acid gases. Equipped with 3M's advanced electrostatic media filter (MFE) technology, this magenta flame-resistant filter is compatible with reusable half facepieces and full facepieces of the 6000, 6500, 7500, 7800S, and FF-400 series, as well as Scott AV-3000 SureSeal and AV-3000 HT masks. Its dual particle/acid gas protection makes it a versatile choice for environments where multiple hazards coexist, particularly in manufacturing, welding, and industrial maintenance sectors.
3M Manufacturer Code: 7000127450, model: 2296
The 2296 filter is sold in bags of 2 units (1 pair) and cases of 50 pairs (100 filters). The integrated acid gas cartridge protects against sulfur dioxide, chlorine, and other acid gases at nuisance concentrations. The filter installs with a quarter-turn on the mask's bayonet ports. Its flame resistance makes it suitable for welding work when used with a compatible welding mask. The filter's service life against particles depends on the work environment; it must be replaced when breathing resistance noticeably increases.
Replace the 2296 filter as soon as breathing becomes difficult, the filter is physically damaged, or after 200 hours of use in contaminated environments. The integrated acid gas cartridge must be replaced on a pre-established schedule based on exposure levels, before any perceptible odor. Store unused filters in their original packaging away from light and moisture. Always use filters in pairs to maintain balanced breathing pressure.
No. The 2296 filter provides protection against particles (P100, ≥ 99.97%) and against acid gases (sulfur dioxide SO₂, chlorine Cl₂, hydrogen chloride HCl) at nuisance concentrations. It does not protect against organic vapors, ammonia, formaldehyde, or other non-acid gases. For complete protection against organic vapors and acid gases, use the Adflo 15-0499 cartridges with the Adflo PAPR system, or an appropriate filter/cartridge combination. Consult the 3M cartridge selection guide or an occupational health advisor to choose the appropriate protection for your environment.
The 2296 filter is compatible with 3M reusable half facepieces of series 6000, 6500, and 7500, full facepiece respirators of series 6000, 7800S, and FF-400, as well as Scott 3M AV-3000 SureSeal and AV-3000 HT masks. It is not compatible with disposable masks (N95, N100) or air-supplied respirators (SCBA) or PAPR. For Series 6000 full facepieces, a central adapter (6884 or 6892) may be required depending on the configuration.
The service life of the 2296 P100 filter against particles depends on the concentration of contaminants in the air and the intensity of work. Replace when breathing resistance increases, the filter gets wet, or is damaged. The integrated acid gas protection has a limited service life that depends on gas concentration, temperature, and relative humidity. It is essential to establish a replacement schedule based on specific exposure conditions, and never wait to perceive an odor before replacing the filter - if an odor is perceived, the filter is exhausted.
To work safely with P100 filter respirators, equip yourself with ambidextrous Silver Shield 2.7 mil chemical protection gloves (GSSGXL), Genesis Uvex safety glasses with espresso lenses (YAU3201), 312 1252 regular 33 dB earplugs (OA1252), a PVC-coated nylon bib apron (VT1285), and Keep Kleen 8 mil nitrile gloves (GL7008).
