Safety role of the MSA chin strap
Accessories have been designed to help users meet task-specific requirements. The chin strap provides additional hard hat retention in situations where there is a risk of the helmet falling off: it prevents the helmet from becoming a falling object that could injure anyone standing below. Any worker required to wear fall protection equipment on a daily basis should also wear a chin strap.
Materials of the elastic chin strap
The webbing is made of stretch polyester, while the anchor points are made of polypropylene. This combination offers comfortable, flexible retention while providing the strength needed to hold the helmet in place during sudden movement or tilting.
Maintenance of the hard hat chin strap
According to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, one shall never draw the chin strap over the brim or peak of the helmet; never unfasten it to fasten it over the brim, and never stretch it over the brim. The CSA Z94.1-15 standard states that one shall inspect its head protection equipment daily. Clean the chin strap with lukewarm water and a mild soap (dish soap).
