The MSA V-Gard is a Type 1 Class E hard hat designed to protect the top of the head at work. Its non-vented high-density polyethylene shell has side slots that accept accessories, and its 4-point Fas-Trac III ratchet suspension adjusts to the standard 6-1/2 to 8 size, a hat size rather than a head diameter in inches. It is certified to CAN/CSA Z94.1-2015 Type 1 Class E and ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014. Six colours are offered, green, blue, yellow, black, red and white, which helps distinguish crews or roles on the same site. The hard hat weighs 0.661 lb and is sold individually.
For residential and commercial construction sites, metal fabrication shops, warehouses with forklift traffic and industrial maintenance work where a Type 1 Class E hard hat is required. Class E concerns protection against electrical contact at the head: it replaces neither electrical work procedures nor the other required protection. Choose the colour according to the company colour code.
Inspect the shell and suspension before each shift: a crack, deformation, discoloration or worn strap calls for replacement. Remove from service any hard hat that has taken a significant impact, even without visible damage. Clean according to MSA instructions and store the hard hat away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not paint or drill the shell, and keep its surface clear for inspection.
Type 1 addresses impacts on the top of the head and Class E concerns electrical protection at the head. The hard hat is certified to CAN/CSA Z94.1-2015 Type 1 Class E and ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014.
The Fas-Trac III ratchet suspension covers the standard 6-1/2 to 8 size, expressed as a hat size. Turn the ratchet until the fit is stable, then check by tilting the head.
No. Its shell is non-vented. The slots on the sides are used to attach accessories.
Yes. The six colours share the same Fas-Trac III suspension, the same standard size and the same Type 1 Class E certification. Only the shell colour changes.
After a significant impact, or as soon as inspection reveals a crack, deformation or discoloration of the shell. An intact appearance is not enough after an impact.
For a carpenter assembling roof trusses on a residential site with this hard hat, plan for 3M Privo 12262 glasses (YA12262) with a smoke polycarbonate lens and SureKnit gloves (GS13GDSTL) knitted from Dyneema, spandex and steel wire, compatible with touch screens. Uncorded 3M disposable earplugs (O1100) reduce nailer noise, while a black 7-in-1 winter coat (VV54) with retroreflective stripes keeps the worker warm in cold weather. Bilingual yellow barricade tape (ECT3YB1) restricts access below the lifting area.
To keep this hard hat in service, the MSA replacement 4-point ratchet suspension (TA80RS) and the absorbent fabric sweatband (TA451) for MSA suspensions replace worn parts. In cold weather, the stretch red acrylic winter liner (V301) for construction hard hats adds a warm layer, and silver retroreflective adhesive strips (TA5) for safety helmets improve wearer visibility. Back from the site, the Sipco vehicle (TA1) seat rack hangs on a seat back, and the Sipco wall (TA2) mount keeps the hard hat stored in the shop.
