The 3M FT-13 Nebulizer is an essential accessory for the qualitative respirator fit testing system. Designed in grey to distinguish it from other system components, the FT-13 nebulizer is used to spray the sensitivity solutions (FT-11 or FT-31) and fit test solutions (FT-12 or FT-32) inside the FT-14 test hood, creating the aerosol needed to evaluate the respirator fit of the test participant. It is compatible with the 3M FT-10 (sweet solution), FT-30 (bitter solution), and FT-20 Training and Fit Test Case qualitative fit test apparatus. Two nebulizers are included in each FT-10 and FT-30 fit test kit.
3M Manufacturer Code: 7000001897, model: FT-13
The FT-13 nebulizer is a bulb nebulizer that propels a spray of solution inside the test hood. Two units are included in the FT-10 and FT-30 kits so that one nebulizer can be dedicated to the sensitivity solution and the other to the fit test solution, preventing cross-contamination. Replacement nebulizer parts are included in the main fit test kits to extend equipment service life. The FT-13 is sold individually for replacing worn or damaged nebulizers.
check for cracks, clogs, or deterioration of the rubber body. Rinse thoroughly between each type of solution to prevent cross-contamination between sensitivity and fit test solutions. Never use the same nebulizer for two different solutions without prior cleaning. Replace the nebulizer if the spray becomes insufficient or irregular. Store away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Each FT-30 (bitter) and FT-10 (sweet) qualitative fit test kit contains two FT-13 nebulizers. This is intentional: one nebulizer is dedicated to the sensitivity solution (FT-31 or FT-11) and the other to the fit test solution (FT-32 or FT-12). This separation is required by the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 and CSA Z94.4 fit testing protocols to prevent cross-contamination that could skew test results. If you need to replace one or more nebulizers, the FT-13 can be ordered individually under reference RFT13.
After each test session, rinse the FT-13 nebulizer thoroughly with distilled or deionized water to remove all solution residue. Allow to dry completely in the air before storing. Avoid using solvents or harsh cleaning products that could degrade the rubber. Regularly check that the internal valve ball is not clogged or stuck. If the spray is insufficient or irregular after cleaning, replace the nebulizer. Replacement nebulizer parts are included in the FT-10 and FT-30 fit test kits.
Yes, the FT-13 nebulizer is compatible with both types of solutions used in qualitative fit testing: sweet saccharin-based solutions (FT-11 sensitivity, FT-12 test) used with the FT-10 apparatus, and bitter Bitrex-based solutions (FT-31 sensitivity, FT-32 test) used with the FT-30 apparatus. However, it is essential to never mix solutions in the same nebulizer without thorough cleaning between uses, and to use two separate nebulizers for sensitivity and fit test solutions during each test session.
To perform fit tests safely, equip the occupational health technician with powder-free black 6 mil nitrile gloves (GL7007), Virtua Max safety glasses with clear lenses (YA11329), 312 uncorded disposable earplugs (OA1250), a disposable Tyvek apron with bib (VT1278), and Keep Kleen 8 mil nitrile gloves (GL7008).
Under the "Accessories" tab at the bottom of the page, find the fit testing system components: the FT-30 bitter kit (RFT30), the FT-31 sensitivity solution (RFT31), and the FT-32 fit test solution (RFT32).
