These hazard labels identify packages of class 3 flammable liquids: paints, solvents, adhesives, alcohols or fuels shipped in boxes, jerricans or drums. They are applied at the shipping station so that handlers and carriers recognize the hazard at a glance. Each 4 X 4 in label shows the flame and the class number 3 on a red background, without text. Made in Canada, they are sold in rolls of 500, in paper or synthetic.
| Material | Sylprotec code | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Adhesive paper | ERCLASSE3-PA | Boxes and packages shipped and stored indoors |
| Adhesive-backed PVC-free synthetic | ERCLASSE3-SY | Jerricans, drums and packages exposed to moisture or weather, indoors and outdoors |
These labels are intended for manufacturers and distributors of paints, solvents, maintenance products and fuels, and for workshops and distribution centres that ship class 3 packages. Paper suits cardboard boxes kept under cover; synthetic holds better on jerricans and drums, and on packages that wait outside.
For the vehicle, complete your display with the class 3 flammable liquids placard (ECLA3) and the 10-3/4 X 10-3/4 in aluminum placard holder (ECLAP).

Apply the label to a clean, dry surface, flat and without folding it, on a visible side of the package. On a jerrican or drum, choose the synthetic and apply it to the side wall. Keep the roll in its packaging, away from moisture and heat, until use.
No. They are hazard labels for the transportation of dangerous goods (TDG), to apply to shipped packages. WHMIS covers the labelling of hazardous products in the workplace.
The 4 X 4 in label identifies the package. The larger placard is displayed on the vehicle or the large means of containment. Depending on the quantity carried, both may be required.
The water-resistant paper is intended for indoor use. PVC-free synthetic suits indoor and outdoor use, for jerricans, drums and packages exposed to the weather.
500 labels of 4 X 4 in (10.16 X 10.16 cm), in paper as in synthetic.
According to the manufacturer, yes. Always check the requirements that apply to your shipment.
For the worker who handles jerricans and packages at the dock, plan for Centurion splash goggles (YG454), 13 in nitrile gloves (GL9315), a PVC-coated nylon bib apron (VT1285), waterproof PVC steel toe boots (VC18821C) and a flame-resistant high-visibility vest (VV510FR) to stay visible at the dock and on the road.
To respond to a leaking jerrican on the road or at the warehouse, keep on board the universal vehicle spill kit (ABUV) for non-corrosive fluids, in a resealable carry bag, and Magic Monkey mineral absorbent (ABGMM225), a portable (EXABC10) 10 lb ABC dry chemical extinguisher, mark off the perimeter with 36 in traffic cones (EPTCONE36) and signal the vehicle with the set of three removable reflectors (EPTR). At night, the UK4AA-eLED anti-explosion flashlight (LL01), intrinsically safe Class 1 Div 1, provides light without creating an ignition source near vapours. A truck driver is an isolated worker as defined by the CNESST: the personal (TR01) first aid kit suits the driver, as it does a vehicle carrying 1 to 5 workers; for a vehicle carrying more than 5 workers more than 30 minutes from medical services, the CNESST calls for the basic (TR02M) first aid kit. Complete with the portable road (TR16) safety kit. The perimeter, absorbent and extinguisher to plan for depend on the material: check the safety data sheet and the 2024 ERG guide shown for the UN number on the shipping document.
