For surveying and geomatics professionals working in low-risk areas, this black low-visibility surveyor vest made of 150 denier polyester woven twill (4.7 oz/yd², 160 g/m²) offers durability, comfort and exceptional storage. Compliant with the CSA Z96-22 standard, class 1 level 2 and the American ANSI/ISEA 107-2020, class 1 type O (daytime visibility, off-road use), it is made by Pioneer (manufacturer code V1010170, model 6692BK) and available in sizes from S to 4XL (drop-down menu). This model is also available in high-visibility orange (V6692) and yellow (V6693), and in low-visibility red (V6683) or blue (V6692B).
Made of 150 denier twill polyester, this waterproof vest includes mesh ventilation openings under the arms for maximum freshness. It features a 50 mm (2 in) StarTech retroreflective tape alternating with fluorescent yellow stripes: 2 vertical stripes in front, 2 stripes crossing in an X on the back and one horizontal stripe at the waist. The heavy-duty brass snap-button front closure ensures a firm hold, and a D-ring access opening allows attachment of fall-protection equipment.
The vest offers exceptional storage:
Front: 2 radio straps, 1 chest pocket for radio or cell phone, 2 flap pockets with eyelets, 3 hook-and-loop closure pockets and 5 pencil slots.
Back: 1 ruler pocket and 1 large cargo pocket with zipper closure.
Inside: 2 large pockets and 1 small pocket.
Important: black is not a high-visibility color — it is less visible than fluorescent or bright colors. Class 1 targets workers in low-risk areas (parking lots, warehouses) where vehicle speed does not exceed about 30 km/h. Type O ("Off-Road") means garments offering daytime visibility only, for off-road use (vehicles ≤ 40 km/h). What sets this vest apart is the presence of retroreflective stripes on a black background. The silver-grey retroreflective stripes return light toward its source (flashlight, headlights): they offer maximum safety at dawn, dusk and night, but do not increase visibility in broad daylight.
Application: surveying and worksite work in low traffic-risk areas (parking lots, warehouses, off-road sites), where organization and storage matter most. Restriction: ensure the vest is well fitted, clean and in good condition; replace it if torn, soiled or worn (dirty retroreflective material offers reduced visibility). Care: machine wash in cold water, no bleach, do not iron, tumble dry (always refer to the garment label).
It complies with the Canadian CSA Z96-22 standard, class 1 level 2, and the American ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 standard, class 1 type O (daytime visibility, off-road use).
No. Black is a low-visibility color, suited to low-risk areas (parking lots, warehouses, off-road) rather than work near fast road traffic, which requires a class 2 vest (orange V6692 or yellow V6693).
16 pockets in total: on the front (radio/cell pocket, flap pockets with eyelets, hook-and-loop pockets, pencil slots), on the back (ruler pocket, large zippered cargo pocket) and inside (2 large + 1 small).
Black (this model, S to 4XL). Also available in orange (V6692) and yellow (V6693) high visibility, and in red (V6683) and blue (V6692B) low visibility.
Yes. The 150D polyester is waterproof and mesh ventilation openings under the arms provide airflow.
