Clear water-based lockdown adhesive that captures and seals asbestos fibres, lead chips and dust before, during and after demolition or removal. It also serves as an adhesion primer before Fiberlock LBC encapsulant on glossy lead paint, and as a stabilizing coat on aged transite before TBC coating. Sold in a 5 gal US (18.9 L) pail.
No returnable if used. For more information about our return policy, please refer to the Orders and Returns.
FIBERLOCK manufacturer code: 6408-Clear
Grip-Tack is a water-based multi-purpose lockdown and adhesive that captures and seals residual contaminants: asbestos fibres, lead chips and dust. It is applied before, during and after demolition or removal, and forms a soft, tacky, flexible membrane that traps particles. On the same job, it works as a primer, a demolition adhesive, a lockdown and a mist knockdown product. Its VOC content is 0 g/L. It does not replace a finish encapsulant: on lead paint, it is topcoated with an encapsulant.
Grip-Tack is the link between two Fiberlock encapsulants: it serves as an adhesion primer on glossy lead paint before LBC (SAH5801) encapsulant, and it stabilizes aged, friable transite before TBC (SAH64975) exterior coating.
Primer before lead paint encapsulation: Ready to use, do not dilute. As an adhesion primer on glossy lead-painted surfaces. On a clean, dry surface with irregularities repaired and wet sanded, apply by brush, roller or airless sprayer, then topcoat with LBC one hour later. Coverage: about 200 sq ft/gal.
Demolition adhesive: Ready to use, do not dilute. On lead-painted components before removal and on all surfaces before demolition or dismantling (asbestos). Spray the entire component: the tacky finish traps dust and chips and locks down airborne particles. Coverage: 100 to 200 sq ft/gal.
Lockdown: Ready to use, do not dilute. On residual fibres after asbestos removal, before air clearance testing, and on residual lead chips and dust before clearance sampling. Apply one coat to all exposed surfaces. A surface primed this way can be topcoated with a 100% acrylic latex paint.
Mist knockdown: Ready to use, do not dilute. To knock down airborne dust and asbestos fibres before post-removal air testing. Stand in the centre of the room, gun as close to the ceiling as possible, and mist parallel to the surfaces in every direction or in a circle. In a containment, apply one coat to the polyethylene walls and floor.
Brush and roller for primer use; airless sprayer set at 1900 to 2500 psi with a .015 to .019 in tip. Apply when air and surface are at 60 °F or higher.
Dry to the touch and recoatable in 1 h at 70 to 77 °F and 50% relative humidity. Coverage: 200 sq ft/gal on smooth surfaces and 100 to 200 sq ft/gal on porous surfaces.
Store in a dry place between 40 °F (4.5 °C) and 90 °F (32 °C), protected from freezing, container closed after use. In its sealed original container, Grip-Tack keeps for at least 12 months. Clean tools with warm soapy water before the product dries.
The safety data sheet carries the signal word WARNING. An approved respirator is mandatory during asbestos and lead work. Keep out of reach of children and do not ingest. Do not apply in poor drying conditions. In an emergency, CHEM-TEL answers 24 hours a day at 800-255-3924.
No. Grip-Tack is ready to use for all four uses. Simply stir it well, without adding solvent, oil or oil-based colorant.
One hour. Grip-Tack is dry to the touch and recoatable in 1 h at 70 to 77 °F and 50% relative humidity.
About 200 sq ft/gal on a smooth surface and 100 to 200 sq ft/gal on a porous surface.
When air and surface are at 60 °F or higher.
Yes. After a lockdown on lead chips and dust, the primed surface can be topcoated with a 100% acrylic latex paint.
For the demolition worker locking down asbestos and lead before removal: a 3M Powerflow powered air respirator (R6800PF), a 3M 6000 series full face facepiece (R6700), a Tyvek 400 coverall (VTY122SWH) with hood and boots, Tyvek all-purpose boot covers (VC1453), 6 mil black nitrile gloves (GL7007) and 3M Privo safety eyewear (YA12261).
For containment: 3 mil orange polyethylene sheeting (SACCT2) for containment, a 7 ft zipper (SACCZ) for the zone entrance, a BULLDOG portable air scrubber (SAH4), a Magnehelic gauge (SAHM) to monitor negative pressure and a HazVac 12 gal industrial vacuum (SAD5).
