The 3M FT-14 Fit Test Hood is the central component of the test environment used during qualitative respirator fit testing. Designed for use with the 3M FT-10 and FT-30 Qualitative Fit Test Apparatus as well as the FT-20 Training and Fit Test Case, the FT-14 hood creates a closed space around the participant's head. This enclosure allows the bitter (FT-32) or sweet fit test solution to be nebulized and enables the participant to detect mask leaks by taste perception. It is compliant with recognized fit testing protocols under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 and CSA Z94.4.
3M Manufacturer Code: 7000051788, model: FT-14
The FT-14 hood is sold in a pack of 2 units. It is included in the complete FT-30 kit but can also be ordered separately to replenish the stock of an existing fit testing program. The hood can be used with any particulate respirator or gas/vapor respirator equipped with a particulate prefilter. It must be used with the FT-15 test collar (sold separately) to ensure a snug seal at the base of the hood during the test.
look for tears, perforations, or deformations. Clean the hood after each use according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Replace the hood as soon as its integrity is compromised. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. A damaged hood can invalidate test results.
Yes, the FT-14 test hood is compatible with both 3M qualitative fit test apparatus: the FT-30 (bitter Bitrex solution) and the FT-10 (sweet saccharin solution). It is also compatible with the FT-20 Training and Fit Test Case. Regardless of the solution type used, the FT-14 hood serves the same function: creating a closed environment around the participant's head to allow solution nebulization and evaluate respirator fit.
Yes, the FT-15 test collar is required to complete the test environment of the FT-14 hood. The hood alone cannot create a sufficiently tight enclosure without the collar that seals the base. The FT-15 collar is included in the complete FT-30 kit but can also be ordered separately under reference RFT15. Without the collar, the concentration of the test solution inside the hood would be insufficient and the test results would not be valid under OSHA and CSA protocols.
The number of tests achievable with one hood depends on frequency of use and the maintenance performed between sessions. The FT-14 hood is reusable and designed to last multiple test cycles when properly cleaned and maintained. With a pack of 2 hoods, an occupational health manager has a spare unit in case of damage or loss. For large-scale testing programs, cases of 10 units (5 packs of 2) are available to meet the needs of larger teams.
To carry out fit tests under the best conditions, equip the occupational health technician with powder-free black 6 mil nitrile gloves (GL7007), Zenith clear-lens safety glasses compatible with prescription eyewear (YAZ200), EARSOFT corded disposable earplugs (OA1252C), a disposable blue PVC apron (VT1283), and Keep Kleen 8 mil nitrile gloves (GL7008). Under the "Accessories" tab at the bottom of the page, find the components directly related to fit testing: the complete FT-30 bitter kit (RFT30), the FT-31 sensitivity solution (RFT31), and the FT-32 fit test solution (RFT32).
