This mask is designed for long-duration tasks where the worker is exposed to hot and humid conditions. It is ideal for metal casting, brazing, cutting, welding stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, and other activities generating low concentrations of ozone or organic vapors. It also protects against liquid particles from non-oily aerosols that do not emit harmful vapors. NIOSH-approved masks (N95, N100, R95, R100, P95, and P100) offer sufficient protection against silica, the second leading cause of chronic respiratory issues after asbestos.

Biological Particles

This respirator helps reduce inhalation exposure to certain airborne biological particles, such as mold, Bacillus anthracis (anthrax), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Koch’s bacillus responsible for tuberculosis), pandemic flu viruses (H5N1, H1N1), etc. However, it cannot completely eliminate the risk of infection, illness, or disease. Due to the nature of certain biological contaminants, government agencies have not established exposure limits for all types of contaminants.

Restrictions and Usage Precautions for the 3M 8214 Flame-Resistant Mask with Cool Flow™ Valve

Do not use if the wearer has facial hair or a condition that prevents direct contact between the mask edge and the face. Do not use if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma or emphysema. This mask is not recommended for handling spray paint, oil-based aerosols, gases, vapors, asbestos, particles released during sandblasting, or aerosol concentrations exceeding 10 times the permissible exposure limit set by CNESST or other applicable government regulations. This respirator should only be used in areas that do not present an oxygen deficiency risk.

When the mask is properly fitted and a qualitative fit test is passed, this respirator meets ANSI Z92.2-1992 standards, offering a protection factor of 10.
