Cool Grip® reinforced Kevlar® thumb patch heavy-duty terry cloth bakers mitt, 12 in long
The Superior Cool Grip® bakers mitt (product code TBM4) is a heavy-duty terry cloth mitt reinforced with a Kevlar® thumb patch, with a total length of 12 in (30 cm). Pre-washed and designed for intermittent use, it is ideal for protection against dry thermal burns during food processing. Available in one-size-fits-all and sold in pairs, it is approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for safe food handling. Compliant with the ASTM F1060-08 test method, it provides a level 5 protection against contact heat according to ASTM and ANSI standards, up to 450 °F (230 °C).
Superior manufacturer's code: TBM4
Features of the Cool Grip terry cloth and Kevlar bakers mitt level 5
The heavy terry knit protects hands against contact heat through its loops and tight plain weave: the loops absorb much more than regular fabric, and the tight warp and weft block the remaining heat when exposed to temperatures up to 450 °F (230 °C). The cotton fleece liner also helps protect against heat and provides modest cut protection. Its speckled brown colour conceals most stains for a great look between and after washes. Finally, the Kevlar® thumb patch improves protection in this critical spot, more vulnerable to burns.
Absorbent, hypoallergenic cotton properties
Cotton has a high water-absorbing capacity and handles sebum well without getting damp. It is breathable, hypoallergenic and offers a nice touch and good comfort, which suits perfectly those with sensitive skin. Cotton has low thermal conductivity, making it ideal for work in hot and cold environments.
Kevlar® properties for tensile strength and heat resistance
Kevlar®, a thermoplastic polymer related to aramids, is a low-density, high-strength material offering excellent tensile strength, elongation and shear strength. It does not expand from temperature changes, fairly absorbs vibrations and shock, does not strain the hand and reacts well chemically to hydrocarbons.
Applications of the Cool Grip mitt for bakery and food service
This mitt is recommended for bakeries, food processing, restaurants and food supply, as well as for home cooks who want peace of mind in the kitchen.
Usage restrictions of the cotton and Kevlar bakers mitt
Do not immerse this mitt in water or any other boiling liquid, since its fabric offers only limited protection against heat conduction. It is also recommended to stay away from open flames when wearing these mitts: the Kevlar® strip is fairly fireproof, but cotton burns quickly.
Maintenance and service life of the Cool Grip cotton mitt
Basic regular maintenance extends the service life of your mitts. Wash them in cold water (i.e. 85 °F/30 °C) with a mild detergent. Rinse well with cold water before drying, then tumble-dry on low heat. Never use bleach on this mitt.
