The heavy-duty CVH6 vehicle hook is designed for 10 lb Flag extinguishers, whose cylinder is 5 1/2 to 6 inches in diameter, larger than normal. Its belt and locking-pin design ensures a secure hold, even in demanding road conditions.
This vehicle bracket is specially designed for 10 lb Flag brand portable extinguishers, whose cylinder has a larger-than-normal diameter, although it can hold other models of the same diameter. Please contact Sylprotec customer service to confirm your extinguisher's compatibility. Vehicles usually carry ABC dry chemical extinguishers (class A, B and C fires) or, more rarely, BC dry chemical extinguishers (class B and C fires).

The hook's design firmly retains the extinguisher with a belt and a pin that locks the mechanism. On the vertical axis, the extinguisher is held by a shelf, which prevents the two arc-shaped horizontal supports from rubbing the cylinder. Added to this are six (6) rubber pads, two on each horizontal support and two on the vertical support, for a custom fit. The manufacturer states that this product is ideal for trucks.
When it comes to the pound rating, it refers to the agent content, not the extinguisher's total weight; hooks are designed for the total weight. The key criterion remains the cylinder diameter: as long as it fits snugly on the hook, the hold is assured, regardless of content.
A major advantage of this hook is that it accommodates many portable extinguisher models from different manufacturers. You can change extinguisher brand without buying a new hook. This saves on equipment costs, but also time and effort, since you will not have to drill new holes to install another hook.
Aesthetically, your vehicles will not look riddled with holes. Such a hook also lets you avoid compromising your vehicle's safety when temporary extinguishers are loaned to you while yours are being serviced: it will readily hold the loaned units.
Per NFPA 10 on portable extinguishers, operational readiness is essential: place the extinguisher in a strategic spot in the vehicle, and never set it on the floor.
Proper bracket: make sure the hook fits your extinguisher; an extinguisher must always be installed on a purpose-built bracket, securely screwed to the vehicle's inner wall.
Tension adjustment: you can adjust the tension by tightening or loosening the bolts on the left side. A well-tensioned hook limits vibration.
Vibration: dry chemical extinguishers are sensitive to vibration that packs the powder and prevents it from discharging properly; a slightly loose hook lets the extinguisher vibrate more.
Vertical position: although a horizontal install is possible to save space, the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) recommends the vertical position; an extinguisher is only laid down when empty, to spot it and have it recharged.
Screw choice: the type of screw used to fix the hook to the vehicle does not affect the hook itself, unless you used the wrong screws for your vehicle's material.
No overload: do not hang any clothing or object on the hook or the extinguisher.
Check: regularly verify that the hook holds the extinguisher well and that the belt and pin work.
By a belt with a pin that locks the mechanism, for a secure hold even while moving.
The key criterion is the cylinder diameter: as long as your extinguisher is within the 5 1/2 to 6 in range, it will fit, regardless of content or total weight. This model is specific to 10 lb Flag extinguishers. For other 10 lb brands, use the CVH5 hook.
Yes, the Montreal Fire Safety Service recommends a vertical installation.
