This all-purpose PVC-coated steel cable, 8 ft (2.44 m) long and 0.125 in (3.18 mm) in diameter, is a replacement cable for a Brady all-purpose cable lockout device, sold separately. Applications of the cable

The cable is used to replace or add to the cable of a Brady all-purpose cable lockout device: a group of side-by-side gate valves, several breakers on a panel, handles or levers that cannot be locked with a rigid device. The steel cable suits environments that call for good mechanical and chemical resistance. For lockout near electrical equipment, the non-conductive red nylon version is also available: the Brady 170409 lockout cable (CACC170409). Follow the facility's written lockout program.

Maintenance of the cable

Shut down the equipment and isolate the energy sources according to your written procedure. Thread the cable through each point to be locked, pull it tight so that no handle can move, then secure it in the device and apply your padlock. Wipe the coating after use in dirty or chemical environments, inspect the cable before each use and take it out of service if it is frayed, kinked or crushed.

FAQ: the cable

Is the lockout device included?

No. The cable is sold on its own; it is used with a Brady all-purpose cable lockout device and a padlock, sold separately.

How long and how thick is the cable?

8 ft (2.44 m) long and 0.125 in (3.18 mm) in diameter.

Does it withstand cold and heat?

The manufacturer states a service temperature range of -40 to 212 °F (-40 to 100 °C) and excellent chemical and corrosion resistance.

Coated steel or red nylon: which should I choose?

The 170408 PVC-coated steel cable offers flexibility and strength with good chemical and corrosion resistance. The 170409 red nylon cable is non-conductive, which makes it the choice for electrical lockout.

How is the cable sold?

Individually, without device or padlock. This item is not stocked: allow 14 to 17 days for delivery.

Suggestions for this cable

For the pipefitter or mechanic who locks out a group of valves, plan for 3M Privo safety glasses (YA12262) with a treated grey polycarbonate lens, grey Superior Touch Dyneema gloves (GS13SXGPU) with polyurethane coating, an Okanagan cap-style type 1 class E hardhat (TA14FS), a blue Pioneer 7730 ARC 2 arc-rated vest (V7730) and 3M PELTOR EEP-100 electronic earplugs (OAEEP100).

To lock the device, add the keyed-different padlock (CA72IB40HB40KD1) ABUS AU-72IB40-HB40 with a stainless steel shackle, the regular laminated steel padlock (CA1), the laminated steel padlock with a 2 in shackle (CA1LH), the DANGER ÉQUIPEMENT VERROUILLÉ tags (CAET6) in packs of 25 and the DANGER NE PAS OUVRIR tags (CAET7) in packs of 25. If the device is locked with a Master Lock Zenex padlock, add the photo labels (CAETS142) to identify the worker: they stick to the padlock, not to the cable.
