These hazard labels identify class 9 packages, the class for dangerous goods that fall into no other class: dry ice, environmentally hazardous substances or airbag inflators, for example. They are applied at the shipping station to boxes and packaging. Each 4 X 4 in label shows black vertical stripes in the upper half and the underlined number 9 on a white background, without text. Made in Canada, they are sold in rolls of 500, in paper or synthetic.
| Material | Sylprotec code | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Adhesive paper | ERCLASSE9-PA | Boxes and packages shipped and stored indoors |
| Adhesive-backed PVC-free synthetic | ERCLASSE9-SY | Coolers, containers and packages exposed to moisture or weather, indoors and outdoors |
These labels are intended for laboratories and companies that ship samples on dry ice, distributors of chemicals and automotive parts, and distribution centres that prepare class 9 packages. Paper suits boxes kept under cover; synthetic holds better on coolers and packages exposed to moisture. For lithium cells and batteries, choose the lithium-specific class 9 label instead (code ERCLASSE9L).
For the vehicle, complete your display with the class 9 placard (ECLA9) and the 10-3/4 X 10-3/4 in aluminum placard holder (ECLAP).

Apply the label to a clean, dry surface, flat and without folding it, on a visible side of the package. Keep the roll in its packaging, away from moisture and heat, until use.
For lithium cells and batteries, use the lithium-specific class 9 label (code ERCLASSE9L). This label is used for other class 9 goods.
The 4 X 4 in label identifies the package. The larger placard is displayed on the vehicle or the large means of containment. Depending on the quantity carried, both may be required.
The water-resistant paper is intended for indoor use. PVC-free synthetic suits indoor and outdoor use, for coolers and packages exposed to the weather.
500 labels of 4 X 4 in (10.16 X 10.16 cm), in paper as in synthetic.
According to the manufacturer, yes. Always check the requirements that apply to your shipment.
For the worker who prepares and handles packages at the dock, plan for 3M SecureFit SF201 anti-fog safety glasses (YASF201), Dexterity NT nitrile-coated cotton knit gloves (GS15NT), Impacto soft rubber kneepads (VG104), an MSA V-Gard 500 vented type 1 class C helmet (TA81) and a Pioneer 6936 yellow high-visibility detachable safety vest (V6936) with mesh back to stay visible at the dock and on the road.
To respond to a leaking package on the road or at the dock, keep on board the universal vehicle spill kit (ABUV) for non-corrosive fluids, in a resealable carry bag, a portable (EXABC10) 10 lb ABC dry chemical extinguisher for an incipient fire in the vehicle, mark off the perimeter with the 11 1/2 ft (3.5 m) expandable safety barricade (EPT195) and signal the vehicle with the set of three removable reflectors (EPTR). A truck driver is an isolated worker as defined by the CNESST: the personal (TR01) first aid kit suits the driver, as it does a vehicle carrying 1 to 5 workers; for a vehicle carrying more than 5 workers more than 30 minutes from medical services, the CNESST calls for the basic (TR02M) first aid kit. Complete with the portable road (TR16) safety kit. The right perimeter and absorbent depend on the material: check the safety data sheet and the 2024 ERG guide shown for the UN number on the shipping document.
