This Sel Warwick ice melting salt melts ice on entrances, sidewalks, outdoor stairs and parking lots, down to -10 °C (14 °F). It is the most widely used de-icing agent in North America: it is easy to handle and store, and it remains economical to buy. Taken directly from the mine, it is drier and therefore lighter: according to the manufacturer, you get more volume for the same weight. It is sold in a 20 kg bag.
Maintenance workers, janitors, building managers, stores, schools and municipalities use it to keep pedestrian accesses and parking areas safe in winter. Below -10 °C, switch to an ice melter designed for extreme cold: the Firestorm (FIRE20) ice melter, effective down to -35 °C (-31 °F), or the Natural Choice Natural (NCHOICE20) ice melter, effective down to -26 °C (-14.8 °F).

Keep them closed and away from moisture. A salt bin with a lid, such as the RMP bins (BRMP424 or BRMP), keeps the salt ready to use near entrances.
For the worker who spreads salt on sidewalks and parking lots, plan for Zenith winter boot grips (VGETZ) to walk on snow and ice, Horizon PVC-coated cotton winter gloves (G500) with a rough finish, Jackson Safety silver Nemesis safety glasses (YA3303) with gray lenses, a Pioneer 6935 detachable high-visibility vest (V6935) to stay visible to vehicles and an orange high-visibility acrylic winter toque (V318). Complete the outfit with the Pioneer waterproof orange and black winter bib overalls (V50402C) and the winter hard hat liner (V320) with mouth cover.
For a complete de-icing station, keep the salt within reach in the RMP 4.24 cu ft salt and sand bin (BRMP424) with hasp, remove mud and snow from shoes and boots with the heavy-duty cleaning brush (VC8002), lay the Zenith rubber outdoor mat (PIZE) at the door, sweep up residue with the Garant 24 in push broom (JP583) for coarse debris and mark slippery areas with an 18 in orange traffic cone (EPTCONE).
