Economical Pioneer 5497 fluorescent yellow traffic sash with reflective stripes
This hi-viz traffic safety sash offers an economical alternative to vests and dossards when certified equipment is not required. Easy to slip on and adjustable in one size, it closes at the front with a quick-release buckle and instantly boosts the wearer's visibility, both in daylight and at dusk. Made by Pioneer (item 5497), it is ideal for identifying personnel where strict compliance is not needed. Please note: its straps are too narrow to qualify for CSA certification; for CSA-compliant sashes, see items VV21 (yellow) and VV22 (orange).
Design of the fluorescent yellow traffic sash with Startech retroreflective stripes
- 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm) wide fluorescent yellow elastic straps.
- 9/16 in (1.5 cm) StartechTm retroreflective stripes centred on the straps.
- Front closure at waist level with a black plastic quick-release buckle.
- 2 vertical straps at the front, 2 straps crossing in an X shape at the back and one horizontal strap around the waist.
- Straps adjustable with sliding buckles.
Visibility of fluorescent yellow and grey reflective stripes
Fluorescent yellow (also called neon yellow or lime green) is highly visible during daylight and in conditions of low natural light, for instance at dawn and dusk. In most situations, it offers a high contrast with the background. Being lighter than orange, fluorescent yellow is more visible at night, though not as much as reflective stripes.
Grey (silver) retroreflective stripes are highly visible in low natural or artificial light conditions, because they reflect light back towards the source of the beam (flashlight, vehicle headlights, etc.). They are most effective at dawn, dusk and at night. However, they do not increase visibility during daylight.

Is this sash compliant with CSA Z96?
No. Its straps are too narrow for CSA certification. It is suitable where certified equipment is not required. For CSA compliance, choose the VV21 (yellow) or VV22 (orange) sashes.
What size does it fit?
One size: the straps adjust with sliding buckles and a front quick-release buckle to fit most builds, worn over a garment.
How is it worn?
It has 2 vertical straps at the front, 2 straps crossing in an X shape at the back and one horizontal strap around the waist, closed at the front with the quick-release buckle.
Is it visible at night?
The grey retroreflective stripes work mainly at dawn, dusk and at night; the fluorescent yellow provides visibility during daylight.
What are the reflective stripes made of?
The retroreflective stripes are StartechTm, 9/16 in (1.5 cm) wide, centred on the elastic straps.
