The 3M Powerflow powered air-purifying respirator is a PAPR system (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) that propels filtered air into the full-face mask, making breathing easier and reducing fatigue. This set is specially designed for professionals working on asbestos removal or industrial decontamination sites. The polycarbonate visor meets the requirements of ANSI Z87.1-2010 standard for eye and face protection. It also serves as safety goggles. The mask is made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The sealing skirt, which molds to the face, is made of silicone. It contains no natural rubber latex.
The respirator is available in several sizes:
- 1 Full-face piece (R6900DIN)
- 1 Powered air purifying respirator unit (RB024/00/02R01)
- 1 Intrinsically safe high capacity nickel-cadmium battery (RBP/17IS)
- 1 Airflow indicator (R520/01/21)
- 1 High efficiency (HE) filter (R450/01/01)
- 1 Single station battery charger (R521/01/43R01)
Compatible with filters R450/01/01R20, this system offers 8 hours of autonomy and protection up to 1000 times the permissible exposure limit, according to CNESST.
The ideal respiratory protection for asbestos removal.
The Powerflow stands out for its lightness, efficiency, and comfort. It is NIOSH approved, thus meeting Canadian and American standards for respiratory protection. Its ergonomic design allows prolonged use without discomfort, while ensuring a perfect seal of the face mask. The motorized system provides continuous ventilation, reducing respiratory effort and improving performance in the field.
Installing the Powerflow respirator is intuitive. Simply attach the powered unit to the full-face mask, insert the high-efficiency filter, then connect the battery. Once the system is assembled, the wearer can adjust the mask on their face, ensuring a proper seal. It is recommended to test the airflow before each use to ensure optimal performance. This system is designed to be quickly operational, even in demanding environments.
To maintain the effectiveness of the Powerflow system, regular maintenance is essential. After each use, the mask should be cleaned with a compatible disinfectant solution, the filter condition checked, and the battery recharged. It is advisable to let the system run for about fifteen minutes after showering to dry the inside of the filter and the powered unit. The motor is guaranteed for three months by the manufacturer, under certain conditions, and only the power cord can be replaced.
This respiratory protection system is recommended for work releasing solid particles into the air, including:
The HEPA filter protects against virtually all types of airborne particles with an efficiency of 99.97%. This respirator is recommended for asbestos removal, chemical or biological decontamination, and any intervention in contaminated environments. It must be used with complementary personal protective equipment, such as sealed suits and suitable gloves. It is important to follow current safety procedures and the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure maximum protection. The Powerflow system must not be used in low-oxygen environments or in the presence of non-filterable toxic gases.
The Powerflow powered air-purifying respirator comes with a limited three-month warranty on the motor, subject to the conditions established by manufacturer 3M. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and failures occurring under proper use. It is important to note that only the power cord can be replaced; other components are excluded from the warranty. To extend the lifespan of the Powerflow system, it is recommended to strictly follow maintenance and storage instructions. Proper use, combined with rigorous cleaning and decontamination procedures, helps preserve the respirator’s performance and ensures consistent safety on high-risk sites. This level of requirement makes Powerflow a reliable and durable choice for decontamination and asbestos removal professionals.
