About APTV and TPP values:
We have observed differences between the values given in the manufacturer's data sheets for APTV and TPP. These values may vary according to the different standards considered. These values are subject to change according to the evolution of tests established according to the reference year of the said standard. The values displayed on our website correspond to those indicated on the garments.

Design:
This work suit is made from 88% premium cotton blended with 12% high-tenacity nylon for a weight of 7 oz per square yard. This blend of fibers creates a fabric that combines strength and breathability. So you'll wear it with ease for a long time to come. This garment also features double seams with aramid thread, inherently flame-retardant. The back is pleated for comfort when stretching. The waistband is fitted on both sides with an elastic band for added comfort. The suit closes at the front with a concealed two-way zipper and snap fasteners made of flame-retardant brass. Wrist openings are adjustable with snaps, and ankles with Velcro. The suit has two pant access openings on the sides. It also features a strap for the radio telephone.

The suit is fitted with silver retroreflective strips edged with fluorescent yellow stripes, to ensure high visibility in most working conditions. The reflective stripes are made of StarTech®, a flame-retardant reflective material. The suit has two vertical stripes at the front, two crossed X stripes at the back, a horizontal stripe at the waist, a stripe around each forearm and a stripe around each leg.

This jumpsuit has 7 pockets:

  • 2 chest pockets;
  • 2 slanted side pockets;
  • 2 back pockets;
  • 1 tool pocket;
  • 1 chest strap for attaching instruments.

This flame-retardant suit is ideal for workers who need protection against flames and electric arcs. It's also perfect for workers in low-light conditions. The garment's flame-retardant quality is guaranteed throughout its lifetime.

About high-visibility colors:
It is important to note that coveralls that include a color other than hi-vis orange or hi-viz yellow are not commonly used for high visibility. Royal blue is not as visible as fluorescent colors or bright colours. Coveralls that include Royal blue are often used for aesthetic reasons or to avoid showing dirt.

Class 1: This class is designed for workers in low-risk areas such as parking lots and warehouses. According to CSA standard Z96-22, it covers the largest surface area of the body.

Silver-gray retroreflective strips are highly visible in natural or artificial low-light conditions, as they reflect light back towards the source of the light beam (flashlight, car headlights, etc.). They therefore offer the greatest safety at dawn, dusk and during the night. However, they do not increase visibility during the day.

Special features:

The benefits of flame-retardant garments are as follows:

  • Increased protection: Flame-retardant garments offer increased protection against the risk of combustion or burns in high-risk work environments.
  • Arc resistance: Flame-retardant garments are also arc-resistant, making them ideal for workers exposed to electrical hazards.
  • Durability: Garments made from flame-retardant fabrics are designed to last a long time, even in tough working environments.

Application:
They are often worn by workers who are exposed to fire hazards, such as firefighters, construction workers and industrial workers. Where there is a risk of combustion in the workplace, flame-retardant clothing must be worn. Any flame and heat protective fabric must offer the degree of protection expected over the useful life of the garment. Clothing characteristics should be defined based on the employer's assessment of workplace hazards.

Restriction:
Do not dry clean, bleach or use chlorine-based chemicals. Any garment that is punctured, torn, contaminated or contaminated with flammable materials should be properly repaired, cleaned or taken out of service.

Care and durability:
Before washing, be sure to empty all garment pockets and close all zippers, snaps and hook-and-loop fasteners. Turn garments inside out. Do not soak. Do not overload the washer and rinse stubborn stains before washing. Wash in lukewarm water with similar colors and does not exceed (104oF or 40oC). Wash heavily soiled garments separately. Use a mild liquid detergent (PH of 10 or less).

Do not use detergents containing bleach or animal fat, or bleach-containing chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) or hydrogen peroxide in the wash cycle. Do not use fabric softener, as it renders garments flammable. Do not use fabric softeners, starch and/or fabric softener sheets. Garments can be ironed, tumble-dried, tunnel-dried or hung in a cool place. Cover retroreflective tape before ironing. Drying temperature should not exceed 149oF or 65oC. Use the "cotton" setting for drying. Do not over-dry. Do not use starch during drying.

The classification of flame-retardant garments, including those in the ARC 2 category, is based on their resistance to electric arcs. Here's a detailed explanation:

The classification of flame-retardant garments, including those in the ARC 2 category, is based on their resistance to electric arcs. Here's a detailed explanation:

  • Category 1: These garments have a minimum arc rating of 4 cal/cm².
  • Category 2 (ARC 2): These garments have a minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm². They are generally sufficient for installations with a risk of less than 8 cal/cm². If the risk is greater than 8 cal/cm², the arc working distance can be increased (until an arc rating of 8 cal/cm² or less is achieved), or additional layers of clothing added until the right level of protection against incident energy is achieved.
  • Category 3: These garments are arc-safe, provided rating is at least 25 cal/cm2.
  • Category 4: These garments are arc-safe, provided rating is at least 40 cal/cm2.

What you need to know about flame-retardant clothing:
Flame-retardant garments are work clothes that can resist combustion and protect the wearer from flames, electric arcs or other sources of intense heat. They are often worn by people working in sectors such as the oil industry, welding, electricity or metallurgy.

How do flame-retardant garments work?
Flame-retardant garments are made from special fabrics that have been chemically treated or are naturally fire-resistant, such as cotton, wool, leather, Nomex®, aramid and carbon fibre. These fabrics have the ability to ignite with difficulty, limit the spread of fire and extinguish quickly once the source of heat has been removed. They also form an insulating layer between the skin and the fire, reducing the risk of serious burns.

What are the safety standards for flame-retardant garments?

Flame-retardant garments must meet strict safety standards that measure their ability to resist heat, extinguish quickly and not melt or tear. These standards vary by country and industry, but some of the most common are

  • CGSB 155.20-2017, which governs flame and arc flash protective clothing for workers exposed to electrical hazards in Canada.
  • CSA Z96-22, which governs high-visibility clothing for workers exposed to traffic hazards in Canada.
  • CSA Z462-15, governing electrical safety practices for Canadian workplaces.
  • ISO 11612, which governs heat and flame protective clothing for workers exposed to thermal hazards worldwide.

How to choose flame-retardant clothing

The choice of flame-retardant clothing depends on a number of factors, such as the type of risk to which you are exposed, the level of protection required, comfort, durability and cost. Here are a few tips for choosing flame-retardant clothing:

  • Find out about the safety standards applicable to your industry and workplace, and check that flame-retardant clothing meets these standards.
  • Consult the labels on flame-retardant garments, which indicate fabric composition, degree of thermal protection (TPP), arc thermal protection (ATPV) and risk class (ARC).
  • Choose flame-retardant garments that offer a good balance between protection and comfort, taking into account climate, mobility and breathability.
  • Choose flame-retardant garments that are adapted to your body shape, neither too tight nor too loose, and that provide optimal body coverage.
  • Choose flame-retardant clothing in bright colours or with reflective stripes, to enhance visibility and safety.
  • Maintain flame-retardant garments according to the manufacturer's instructions, avoiding chemicals, bleaches or high temperatures, which could alter their effectiveness.
