This economical respiratory protection half-mask is made of thermoplastic elastomer. The nylon headband is equipped with adjustable elastic straps on the sides of the face. The mask has a small internal volume to better exchange air with each breath. The skirt of the mask is softer around the nose for better comfort and more rigid around the chin for better support. The mask is lightweight and comfortable and can be worn with safety glasses. This half-mask contains no latex.

The North series 5500 elastomer half-mask is an economical and durable solution for respiratory protection. Compatible with the N series filters and cartridges of North, it adapts to different needs: protection against dust, fumes, spores, gases and harmful vapors. Its ergonomic design ensures optimal fit and prolonged use without discomfort.

Compatible with the following cartridges and combined cartridges of the North N series (sold separately):

• Cartridge against organic vapors/acid gases/multigas for North respirators series 5400, 7600 & 7700. (RN75SCL).
• Cartridge against organic vapors for North respiratory protection masks series 5400, 7600 & 7700. (RN75001).

Particularities half-mask respirator North series 5500

 This half-mask respirator is made of thermoplastic elastomer, offering a soft skirt around the nose for more comfort and a more rigid part around the chin for better support. It is lightweight, reusable and contains no latex. Available in three sizes (S, M, L), it is sold individually. NIOSH approved, it offers a protection factor of 10 against contaminants up to 10 times the exposure limit value. Half-masks are recommended for work that releases solid or liquid particles (aerosols) into the air, as well as for work in environments where there are contaminants or biological particles in the air.

When worn with filters, the half-mask protects against solid, liquid and biological particles (smoke, dust, metals, spores, etc.). When worn with cartridges, the half-mask protects against gases and odors (paint vapors, toxic gases, mold odors, etc.). For optimal protection, the worker must perform a fit test and wear the mask with the correct filtering elements for his work.

How to install half-mask respirator North series 5500

To properly install the North series 5500 half-mask, place it on the face covering the nose and mouth. Adjust the elastic straps of the nylon headband to obtain a stable fit. Check the sealing by performing a qualitative test to ensure optimal respiratory protection.

How to maintain half-mask respirator North series 5500

This mask is reusable and can last several years provided that its maintenance and storage are done according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The manufacturer North recommends:

•  Always inspect your mask before using it;
• Clean it after use (with warm water and a mild detergent, such as dishwashing detergent);
•  Put it back in its packaging when unused.

Always remove cartridges or filters after use. Never clean the mask with aggressive detergents, solvents or bleach, since they can chemically weaken the components of the mask, which can ultimately reduce its effectiveness.

Use the North series 5500 half-mask with filters or cartridges adapted to your work environment. It protects against solid, liquid and biological particles, as well as against certain gases and vapors. Never use it in an oxygen-deficient atmosphere nor for concentrations higher than 10 times the exposure limit value. Avoid its use during sandblasting work, which requires higher protection.

Restriction:

 The half-mask alone does not provide oxygen. Never use this half-mask in an oxygen-deficient atmosphere (oxygen concentration below 19.5%). Half-masks have a characteristic protection factor of 10. They protect against contaminant concentrations up to 10 times higher than the exposure limit value (ELV) established by CNESST or any other applicable government regulation. Do not use a half-mask if the concentration of contaminants is higher than 10 times the ELV. Do not use during sandblasting work. These tasks require a higher protection factor, for example an air-supply system. Do not wear a respiratory protection mask when a beard is visible. Indeed, facial hair or any other condition likely to prevent direct contact between the mask and the face may compromise worker safety by creating leakage points.

Do not use if the worker suffers from asthma or a respiratory disease such as emphysema, asthma or bronchitis.
