The 3M Speedglas G5-01 Hinge Mechanism (part number 46-0400-56) is an essential replacement part that maintains the proper operation of your G5-01 high-performance welding helmet. This pivoting and sliding mechanism ensures controlled movement of the welding shield, allowing the operator to raise and lower the outer welding screen smoothly, even under intensive working conditions.
3M purchase code: 7100232457, model: 46-0400-56
Designed specifically for the G5-01 system, this mechanism replaces the original hinge when it becomes damaged, worn, or defective. Each bag contains 2 hinge mechanisms, providing immediate replacement and an extra spare part to minimize production downtime. Manufactured in Sweden, this component meets the quality standards of the 3M Speedglas product line.
The G5-01 hinge mechanism is compatible with the 3M Speedglas G5-01 high-performance welding helmet and is part of the G5 accessories ecosystem. For a complete repair, also consider the pivot ring and the outer welding shield frame, which work in coordination with this mechanism.
Metal fabrication and processing: MIG, TIG, arc welding, grinding, and cutting. The G5-01 helmet is designed for intensive production environments where the hinge is actuated dozens of times per day.
Industrial maintenance: heavy machinery repair, factory maintenance operations. The hinge must operate reliably even after thousands of open and close cycles.
Heavy infrastructure: steel construction sites, bridges, structural frameworks, tanks. Difficult conditions require a replacement part available on-site to avoid costly stoppages.
General manufacturing: production workshops where multiple welders share equipment. Having a replacement mechanism in stock reduces downtime when a failure occurs.
The hinge is one of the most mechanically stressed parts of a welding helmet. It supports the repeated movements of the visor throughout the entire service life of the helmet. Replacing a damaged hinge at the first signs of wear significantly extends the overall service life of the G5-01 helmet and avoids the need to replace the entire assembly.
Visually inspect the hinge before each use. Replace immediately if movement is uneven, if the visor no longer holds in the raised position, or if cracks or deformation are visible on the mechanism. Keeping a spare bag in the workshop is a recommended practice for intensive welding environments.
Several signs indicate that replacement is needed: the visor no longer holds properly in the raised or lowered position, movement is uneven or requires excessive effort, or abnormal cracking sounds are heard when actuating the visor. Visible cracks on the mechanism or deformation of the part are also clear indicators. Do not wait for complete failure, as a defective mechanism can endanger the operator if the visor drops during a welding operation.
This hinge mechanism (46-0400-56) is designed specifically for the 3M Speedglas G5-01 high-performance welding helmet. It is not designed for other Speedglas series such as the 9100 FX, 9100 FX-Air, or G5-01 VC. For helmets from other series, please refer to the specific replacement parts for each model available at Sylprotec. If you are unsure about compatibility, contact our technical team before purchasing.
The G5-01 Speedglas helmet uses two symmetrical hinge mechanisms, one on each side of the visor. To ensure balanced and uniform operation, 3M recommends replacing both hinges at the same time, even if only one is damaged. Replacing only one hinge can create an imbalance in visor movement. The 2-unit bag packaging directly addresses this requirement and simplifies the replacement order process.
For complete welding and grinding protection, we also recommend these personal protective equipment items worn simultaneously with your G5-01 helmet: the PU-coated nylon knit gloves (GS13BKPUQ) for dexterity and resistance to spatter, safety glasses Virtua Max with clear lenses (YA11514) for moments without the helmet, disposable 3M earplugs (O1100) against welding and grinding noise, and the orange Arc Flash ARC 2 ignition-resistant coverall (V7705) for body protection against sparks. Under "Accessories" at the bottom of the page.
Among the direct accessories for your Speedglas helmet, we also offer: the photosensitive filter lens (R46-0000-30i), the facial faceseal (R46-0099-28), and the G5 sweatband in a bag of 3 units (R46-0200-54).
