The 3M Versaflo M-407SG helmet assembly combines the Versaflo Series M facepiece with a flame-resistant shroud and leather welding shield housing a Speedglas Series 9100 filter. Designed for demanding welding environments, this assembly provides comprehensive head, face and eye protection against welding arcs, sparks and molten metal spatter.
3M purchase code: 7100168649, model: M-407SG
The flame-resistant shroud and leather hood meet the ASTM D6413 standard for flame resistance. This assembly is 10% lighter and provides a larger viewing area than the 3M Series L L-905SG welding helmet, reducing neck fatigue during extended welding sessions. The flip-up visor allows communication in non-hazardous areas without removing the equipment.
When used with a NIOSH-approved air source, this assembly helps protect against certain airborne contaminants. It is compliant with ANSI Z89.1 Type I Class G for head protection and ANSI Z87 for welding arc protection. The assembly is compatible with Versaflo and Adflo 3M powered air purifying respirators, as well as 3M supplied-air respirators.
The Speedglas Series 9100 auto-darkening filter recommended for this assembly is sold separately. For optimal eye protection against welding arcs, the 9100XXi filter with natural color technology is recommended.
Metal fabrication and processing: welding, cutting and grinding in metal fabrication shops requiring complete head-face-eye protection against arc flash and sparks.
Heavy industry: welding operations in steel, petrochemical and mechanical construction sectors where workers face exposure to electrical arcs and metal projections.
Maintenance and repair: structural metalwork, industrial equipment and heavy vehicle repair requiring robust protection against sparks and high-temperature spatter.
Industrial electrical work: work on energized equipment or near electrical arcs where full head protection is required by safety protocols.
10% lighter than the 3M Series L L-905SG welding helmet, reducing cervical fatigue during long welding sessions.
Enlarged viewing window for improved situational awareness on the job site.
Flip-up visor allowing direct communication without removing the full assembly.
Compliant with ANSI Z89.1 Type I Class G for head protection.
Compliant with ANSI Z87 for welding arc and spatter protection.
Shroud and hood compliant with ASTM D6413 for flame resistance.
Compatible with NIOSH-approved air sources for supplementary respiratory protection.
The M-407SG features a flame-resistant fabric shroud and hood, while the M-409SG features a durable leather shroud. Both assemblies offer similar protection against welding arcs and spatter, but the M-409SG leather model is better suited to environments with prolonged exposure to sparks and molten metal projections. The choice depends on the level of exposure and operator preference.
No, the Speedglas Series 9100 auto-darkening filter is not included in the M-407SG assembly. It must be ordered separately based on your eye protection requirements. 3M recommends the 9100XXi filter with natural color technology for optimal eye protection during welding. Browse our selection of Speedglas filters available at Sylprotec.com to choose the model suited to your welding type.
The M-407SG assembly is compatible with Versaflo TR-300 and Adflo 3M powered air purifying respirators, as well as 3M NIOSH-approved Type C and CE supplied-air respirators. It adapts to most 3M Versaflo air supply systems, providing integrated respiratory protection against welding fumes and airborne contaminants. Refer to 3M documentation to confirm compatibility with your specific system.
For optimal protection during intensive welding operations, our customers also choose: cut-resistant Dyneema gloves (GS13SXGPU) with PU coating for handling metal parts, Virtua Max safety eyewear (YA11514) with clear lenses for areas not covered by the mask, 3M 1100 disposable earplugs (O1100) without cord for hearing protection against welding noise, a flame-resistant orange ARC 2 coverall (V1765) for body protection against sparks and arcs, and Superior Touch nylon gloves with latex coating (GS13BKPUQ) as a work alternative.
For direct accessories from the Versaflo M and Speedglas 9100 product lines, we recommend the extended durability outer cover web (RM448) to extend your equipment's service life, the flame-resistant outer cover web (RM447) for high-risk environments, and the SG-90 carrying bag (RSG90) to protect your helmet during transport and storage.
