The 3M Adflo 15-0009 Spark Arrestor is a protective filter component placed at the front of the 3M Adflo turbo system. It is positioned between the air inlet and the high-efficiency particulate filter (15-0299) to protect it from welding spatter, sparks, and large particles that could prematurely damage it. By extending the service life of the high-efficiency filter, the spark arrestor represents a sound economic investment for intensive welding programs. Sold in a pack of 1 pair (2 units), it is compatible with the 3M Adflo Powered Air Purifying Respirator.
3M Manufacturer Code: 15-0009-99X01, model: 15-0009
The spark arrestor is a lightweight, low-profile white non-woven filter material that installs directly on the side of the Adflo turbo unit, in contact with the air inlet. Replacement is recommended after each intensive welding session or when visibly clogged. In welding environments, it is recommended to inspect the spark arrestor before each use and replace it as soon as it shows signs of saturation or perforation. The pair of spark arrestors must be replaced simultaneously to maintain balanced airflow in the Adflo system.
Replace the 15-0009 spark arrestor regularly and before any intensive work session to protect the 15-0299 high-efficiency filter. A saturated spark arrestor increases the breathing resistance of the Adflo system and may compromise the required minimum airflow. Visually inspect the spark arrestor before each use. Do not reuse a perforated or heavily clogged spark arrestor. Store in its original packaging away from dust and moisture.
The replacement frequency of the Adflo 15-0009 spark arrestor depends on the intensity of welding work and the amount of spatter and large particles in the environment. In intensive welding, it may be necessary to replace the spark arrestor daily or after each extended work session. In less intensive use, replacement may be less frequent. The basic rule is to replace the spark arrestor as soon as it is visibly clogged, deformed, or when the Adflo system airflow seems to decrease. Regular maintenance extends the service life of the more expensive 15-0299 high-efficiency filter.
No. The 15-0009 spark arrestor is designed primarily to intercept large particles, welding spatter, and sparks. It does not provide high-efficiency filtration against fine particles. Filtration of fine particles (welding fumes, suspended dust) is provided by the 15-0299 high-efficiency filter. Both components must be used together for complete protection. Installation order is important: the spark arrestor installs upstream of the high-efficiency filter to protect it.
Both components are pre-filtration elements of the Adflo system, but they differ in design and role. The 15-0009 spark arrestor is designed for welding work with spark projection; it protects the main filter against thermal and mechanical shocks. The 15-0099 prefilter is a particulate prefilter for more general use. Consult the Adflo respirator manual to confirm which is recommended for your specific application. In welding environments with spark projection, the 15-0009 spark arrestor is generally the recommended component.
For welding work requiring Adflo respiratory protection, equip yourself with MIG gloves (G603), SecureFit amber anti-fog safety glasses (YASF203), a yellow (AGP01) and a split leather apron (VT1288).
