The C-size alkaline battery (LBC) is a cylindrical 1.5-volt battery, larger than the AA, designed for medium-power devices that need greater capacity. It is found in flashlights, portable radios, some toys, audio devices and various handheld equipment. Its larger size lets it store more energy than an AA or AAA, which means extended runtime for more demanding devices.
Alkaline technology ensures a stable voltage and a long shelf life, ideal for devices used intermittently but that must stay ready, such as an emergency flashlight or a backup radio. Keeping a few C batteries in reserve is a sensible precaution for emergency kits.
Beyond its capacity, the C battery is the right choice for medium-power devices.
Its larger size stores more energy than an AA, extending the runtime of flashlights, radios and audio devices that draw more power.
Alkaline chemistry holds a stable 1.5-volt output and offers a good shelf life, ready to use when needed.
The C-size alkaline battery is used everywhere medium-power devices must stay powered:
Insert the battery according to the polarity (+ and −) shown in the device's compartment, and replace all the batteries in a device at the same time rather than mixing a new and a used cell. Store spare batteries in a dry, temperate place, away from metal objects. Remove the batteries from a device unused for a long period to avoid any risk of leakage, and recycle used batteries through local programs.
Both provide 1.5 volts, but the C is larger and stores more energy, for medium-power devices. The sizes are not interchangeable.
Flashlights, portable radios, some toys and audio devices are among the most common uses of the C size.
Store them dry and cool, and remove them from a device that will be unused for a long period.
Depending on your devices, it can be handy to keep different battery sizes in reserve; also see a D 1.5 V alkaline battery (LBD), an AA 1.5 V alkaline battery (LBAA), an AAA 1.5 V alkaline battery (LBAAA), a 9 V alkaline battery (LB9), an Exit sign with battery (LUMB), a replacement battery (LBLUM), a single 9 W spotlight (LUMT1) or a 6 V 36 W unit (LU362MT).
