Pioneer 7728 orange FR-Tech arc-rated vest, ARC 2, CSA Z96-22 class 2

Designed for workers exposed to flames, electric arcs and traffic hazards at once, this orange Pioneer 7728 flame-resistant safety vest combines high visibility with fire protection. Made of FR-Tech 88% premium cotton / 12% high-tenacity nylon (7 oz), it provides ARC 2 level protection, with an ATPV of 10 cal/cm² and a TPP of 9 cal/cm². It complies with CGSB 155.20-2017, NFPA 2112-2018 (UL certified), ASTM F1506-2020A, NFPA 70E-21, CSA Z462-24 and CSA Z96-22 class 2 level 2 (FR level). Made by Pioneer (manufacturer code V2540050, model 7728), available in sizes from S to 4XL (drop-down menu). Also available in a blue version (V7730) and a black version (V7729).

FR-Tech 88/12 cotton-nylon 7 oz fabric resistant to flames and arcs

The vest is made of FR-Tech 88% premium cotton blended with 12% high-tenacity nylon, a fabric that resists flames and electric arcs while staying light and comfortable for extended wear. It has a cell-phone pocket, an attachment strap for a two-way radio and a D-ring access slot to pass the dorsal D-ring of a fall-arrest harness. It features 50 mm (2 in) silver StarTech retroreflective stripes alternating with hi-viz yellow stripes: 2 vertical stripes in front, 2 stripes crossing in an X on the back and one horizontal stripe at the waist.

ARC 2 protection, ATPV 10 cal/cm² and TPP 9 cal/cm²

Category 2 (ARC 2) corresponds to a minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm², generally sufficient for installations with a risk below 8 cal/cm²; beyond that, increase the arc working distance or add protective layers. The ASTM F1506-2020A and NFPA 70E standards govern arc-flash protection and the selection of suitable flame-resistant clothing. About the ATPV and TPP values: discrepancies may exist between the manufacturer's data sheets depending on the standard and reference year; the values shown here match those printed on the garment.

High-visibility classification CSA Z96-22 class 2 and StarTech stripes

Orange flame-resistant hi-viz clothing combines two protections: high visibility and flame resistance, for workers exposed to flash fires, electric arcs or hazardous materials. Fluorescent orange is highly visible in daylight and under strong artificial lighting, but less so at night and in low light (dawn, dusk). The silver-grey retroreflective stripes return light toward its source (flashlight, headlights) and offer maximum safety at dawn, dusk and night. Class 2 targets workers near road traffic (maximum speed 80 km/h, low to moderate risk).

Application, restriction and care of the FR-Tech flame-resistant vest

Application: workers exposed to fire and arc-flash hazards (industry, electrical work, welding, petrochemicals), where both visibility and fire resistance are required; garment features should match the employer's risk assessment. Restriction: do not dry-clean, bleach or use chlorine-based products; do not dry on a radiator; any garment that is holed, torn or contaminated with flammable materials must be repaired, cleaned or retired. Care: empty pockets and close fasteners, turn the garment inside out, wash in warm water (max 40°C / 104°F) with a mild liquid detergent (pH 10 or less), NO fabric softener (which makes the garment flammable), no starch and no bleach; dry at 65°C (149°F) maximum on the "cotton" setting, covering the retroreflective tape before any ironing.
