Type: wall hook for portable extinguisher (Buckeye brand).
Compatibility: Buckeye ABC dry chemical portable extinguishers of 5 lb (2.27 kg).
Dimensions: height 1.5 in (3.81 cm) x length 3 in (7.6 cm) x width 3 in (7.6 cm).
Weight: 0.18 lb (0.081 kg).
We offer several sizes of the same hook (the CB10 and the CB20). When it comes to the pound rating, it refers to the agent content, not the total weight; the hook is designed for the extinguisher's total weight. The key point is that the cylinder hangs properly on the hook.
Per NFPA 10, the operational readiness of a portable extinguisher is essential: it should always be kept in the same place; you should never have to look for an extinguisher.
Strategic location: place the extinguisher where it is easily accessible and clearly visible.
Not too close to fire: avoid being right next to a potential fire source such as the stove or heating appliances.
Within reach: install it within reach but out of children's reach, and never set on the floor.
Every workplace is different: the equipment needed depends on the risk level (low, moderate or high), often several at once, and on the fire types possible (class A, B, C, D or K). Almost every workplace has class A, B and C fire risks. To assess your needs, use Sylprotec's portable-extinguisher inspection and maintenance service.
Make sure the hook fits your extinguisher; an extinguisher must always be installed on a purpose-built bracket or cabinet, securely screwed to the wall. The larger the extinguisher cylinder, the longer the hook must be: once installed, the extinguisher must be perfectly vertical, otherwise it will hang diagonally.
Height: mount the hook so the extinguisher is at least 10 cm (4 in) and at most 1.5 m (5 ft) from the floor, for easy, ergonomic handling.
Vertical position: the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) recommends a vertical installation for all extinguishers; an extinguisher is only laid down when empty, and most hooks allow only the vertical position.
Screw choice: the type of screw used to fix the hook to the wall does not affect the hook itself, unless you used the wrong screws for your wall material.
No overload: do not hang any clothing or object on the hook or the extinguisher.
Check: regularly verify that the hook holds the extinguisher well and is securely fastened.
Buckeye ABC dry chemical portable extinguishers of 5 lb (2.27 kg). The key criterion is that the cylinder hangs properly on the hook; it also accommodates other brands (check compatibility).
The larger the cylinder, the longer the hook must be so the extinguisher stays perfectly vertical. See the CB10 and the CB20.
Between 10 cm (4 in) and 1.5 m (5 ft) from the floor; extinguishers over 30 to 40 lb are mounted lower (3 1/2 ft) to avoid back injuries.
