Keyed-different red aluminum padlock with silicone-covered shackle
This item is not stocked: allow 5 days for delivery.
This keyed-different padlock keeps an energy-isolating device locked while equipment is serviced. Safe intervention depends on controlling all hazardous energy sources according to the facility's lockout procedure. Each padlock opens with its own key; only the worker who keeps that key can remove the padlock. Its aluminum alloy body is covered by a red plastic shell that makes it visible from a distance. The hardened steel shackle carries a black silicone sleeve that protects it from the weather, rust, moisture and chemicals, an advantage for lockout outdoors or in corrosive environments. The shackle pops open on unlocking, and the key stays captive while the padlock is open.

Which key type should I choose?
Keyed different is the right choice for personal safety lockout. While an outdoor pump, an electrical panel or a machine is being serviced, each worker applies his or her own padlock to the energy-isolating device or to the hasp and keeps the key: no one else can remove that padlock while the worker is exposed. One worker, one padlock, one key that opens it: that is what makes keyed-different padlocks safer for personal protection. The key-retaining feature reinforces this rule, since the worker must close the padlock to take back the key.
Applications of the padlock
This padlock is suited to locking out electrical panels, machines and energy isolation points, especially outdoors or in a corrosive industrial environment: utilities, construction sites, pumping stations, plants exposed to the weather. Its red shell signals the hazard at a glance. The key-retaining feature means the padlock must be closed before leaving with the key, so a padlock is never left open on a device. Follow the facility's written lockout program.
Maintenance of the padlock
Shut down the equipment and isolate all hazardous energy sources according to the written procedure for that equipment, then pass the shackle through the energy-isolating device or the hasp and close the padlock: the key can only be removed once the padlock is closed. Keep the key with you and identify the padlock with a lockout tag. Before starting work, dissipate or restrain stored energy and verify effective isolation according to the equipment procedure. Wipe the silicone sleeve after use in dirty or chemical environments and take out of service a padlock whose sleeve is torn or whose shackle is bent.
FAQ: the padlock
What does keyed different mean?
Each padlock opens with its own key. It is the usual choice for each worker's personal padlock in a lockout procedure.
What is the silicone shackle sleeve for?
It protects the hardened steel shackle from the weather, rust, moisture and chemicals, which extends the life of the padlock outdoors or in corrosive environments.
What does key retaining mean?
The key cannot be removed while the padlock is open. The worker must close the padlock to get the key back, which prevents leaving an open padlock on a device.
At what temperatures can it be used?
The manufacturer states a tolerance of -4 to 350 °F (-20 to 177 °C).
How is the padlock sold?
Individually, in red. This item is not stocked: allow 5 days for delivery.
Suggestions for this padlock
For the utility or maintenance technician who locks out equipment outdoors, plan for 3M SecureFit safety glasses (YASF203) with amber anti-fog polycarbonate lenses, ParaActiv Pro gloves (GSKGPXNE) that protect against electric arcs, a Delta Plus Independence type 1 class E hardhat (TA14LR), a Pioneer FR-Tech orange 7 oz arc 2 flame-resistant shirt (V130) and 3M E-A-R 25 dB push-to-fit earplugs (OA2100).
To complete the lockout, add the Master Lock 427 lockout hasp (CAH427), the DANGER ÉQUIPEMENT VERROUILLÉ NE PAS OPÉRER tags (CAET11) in packs of 25, the red lockout box (CAEB) for group lockout, the bags (CAESAC) for large electrical connectors and the Master Lock Grip Tight 493B breaker (CAC4) lockout. To identify each worker on a padlock, also see the Master Lock photo labels (CAETS142), designed for its Zenex padlocks; their compatibility with this padlock is not confirmed.
