The American Lock A1106RED safety padlock from Master Lock is used to lock an energy-isolating device during a lockout procedure. Its red anodized aluminum body, 1-1/2 in wide and 1-51/64 in high, stands out easily on equipment. The 1/4 in diameter boron steel shackle provides 1-1/2 X 25/32 in of clearance. Each padlock has its own key (keyed different), which helps ensure that only the worker who applied it can remove it. The 5-pin cylinder is rekeyable. Sold individually.
For an electrician isolating a disconnect before servicing, a maintenance mechanic locking a valve lockout device on a production line or a fabrication shop crew locking out a press. Each worker applies a personal padlock, often on a hasp when several people work on the same equipment. Follow the facility's lockout program.
Before each use, check that the shackle latches and releases properly and that the key turns without force. Keep the key on your person for the entire lockout. Store the padlock clean and dry, for example in a lockout station. Remove from service any padlock with a bent shackle or a sticking mechanism.
No. The A1106RED is keyed different: each padlock has its own key.
The boron steel shackle has a 1/4 in diameter and provides 1-1/2 X 25/32 in of clearance.
Anodized aluminum keeps the padlock light, and the red colour makes it easy to spot on locked-out equipment.
Yes. The 5-pin cylinder is rekeyable.
The body is 1-1/2 in wide and 1-51/64 in high.
For an electrician applying this padlock to a disconnect before motor maintenance, plan for an MSA Super V helmet (TA82) with a 4-point ratchet suspension and Jackson Safety Nemesis glasses (YA3297) with a clear lens. TenActiv composite fibre gloves (GS21TXUFN) coated with nitrile foam, the 10 ft yellow-painted aluminum expandable barrier (EPT999) around the open panel and 3M H7A headband earmuffs (OPH7A) complete the equipment for the job.
When several workers are involved, the lockout hasp (CA2) takes each person's padlock, and the lockout device with an adjustable 6 ft cable (CA4) connects several isolation points. The French-language do-not-operate lockout DANGER (CAET5) tag warns against operating the equipment, and English Dynamic (CAETSGS419) inspection tags help track equipment status. To store the crew's padlocks, see the Master Lock lockout station (CAE3AL) and the red group lockout box (CAEB).
