The Peakworks temporary roof anchor is an anchorage connector designed for the fall protection of roofers and workers operating on sloped roofs. Economical and easy to install, it serves as an attachment point to connect a harness to a fall protection system for the duration of a job. It is the ideal solution for occasional roofing work where a permanent anchor is not required.
Built from rugged metal, this anchor is designed by the manufacturer to withstand static forces of 5000 lb (22 kN), in compliance with the CSA Z259.15 and ANSI Z359.18 standards. The maximum worker weight is 310 lb (141 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment. Peakworks manufacturer code: V8229001, model RB-9701. Sold individually.
Simple and affordable, this anchor provides a reliable fall protection attachment point for occasional work on sloped roofs, with no permanent installation.
According to the manufacturer, this anchor must be installed on structural parts of the sloped roof: it can be placed directly on the wood or on the metal sheeting covering the wood frame. Use 8 nails 16d of 3 ½ in to fasten it. Do not install it too close to the roof edge. The anchor point should preferably be located above the level of the harness dorsal D-ring and positioned vertically relative to the user; the worker must stay below this point within an angle of no more than 45 degrees. Always assess the fall distance, the free clearance below the worker, the rescue measures and the anchor strength (5000 lb). At the end of the job, the anchor may stay on the roof, but the attachment ring must be folded down to make it unusable and the whole must be covered with shingles.
Before each use, inspect the anchor for any sign of corrosion, cracking, deformation, wear or loose fasteners, and check the integrity of the attachment ring and the nails. Any anchor that is damaged, deformed or has been subjected to a fall must be taken out of service immediately. A qualified person should also carry out a periodic inspection. Sylprotec offers a fall protection equipment inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.
Since this is a temporary anchor, check its condition before each installation. If you recover it, clean it with mild soap and lukewarm water to remove dirt and debris, avoid abrasive or chemical products, dry it thoroughly and store it sheltered. Replace it at the first sign of corrosion, deformation or wear of the fixing points.
