The Peakworks roofer fall protection kit is a complete, affordable and ready-to-use kit designed for workers who occasionally need fall protection, particularly on roofs. At a very accessible price, it gathers in a storage bucket all the essentials to work safely at heights.
The kit includes: an FPH1000A safety harness (class A, universal size), an FPACC rope grab with a 2 ft lanyard and panic lock, a 50-foot FPAC vertical lifeline rope (5/8 in), a temporary FPA827 roof anchor, and a bucket for transport and storage. Peakworks manufacturer code: V8257045, model RK4-50. The kit complies with CSA Z259.10-06, CSA Z259.11-05 and CSA Z259.2.5, and suits a worker from 99 to 253 lb (45 to 115 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment.
The FPH1000A harness is an economical class A harness with a dorsal D-ring, 3 adjustment points (2 on the legs, 1 on the chest) and a sub-pelvic strap; the chest and thigh straps are joined by interlocking buckles. The FPACC rope grab (type E4) stops a fall with its cam mechanism and includes a panic-lock device that prevents tight-grip falls; it is used on the 5/8 in rope. The FPAC-50 rope serves as the vertical lifeline and has a minimum breaking strength of 5000 lb. The FPA827 anchor reinstalls easily on the roof.
This all-in-one kit offers a complete, economical and easy-to-carry fall protection solution for occasional roofing work.
The roof anchor must be installed according to the manufacturer's manual, ideally above the level of the harness dorsal D-ring. The worker must stay below the anchorage within an angle of no more than 45 degrees. Assess the fall distance, available clearance and anchorage strength (5000 lb) before each use.
The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. Each component (harness, rope grab, rope, anchor) must be checked for any sign of degradation, wear, malfunction or breakage, and replaced at the first sign of failure. The kit should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the worker (from every 90 days to yearly depending on the manufacturer and conditions). The recommended lifetime of a lanyard and harness is 5 years. Any equipment that has withstood a fall or an impact must be taken out of service. Sylprotec offers a lanyard and harness inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.
For cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C). Do not use bleach or abrasive or chemical products. If the equipment is too dirty or contaminated, it is time to replace it. Air dry, without excessive heat, in a clean environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and to any source of contamination.
