3M Versaflo S-403 High-Protection Hood with Facial Seal
The 3M Versaflo S-403 hood is a premium powered air facepiece designed for industrial environments with high concentrations of contaminants. With an assigned protection factor of 1,000 (APF 1000) compliant with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 and Canadian standard CSA Z94.4, it provides robust respiratory protection against fine particles, chemical vapors and biological agents.
The inner bib ensures a facial seal : a fundamental difference compared to economical head covers in the S series. The 0.38 mm PETG (amorphous copolyester) visor delivers excellent optical clarity and a generous field of view: 364 cm² in Small/Medium and 412 cm² in Medium/Large. The hood is latex-free, making it suitable for workers with natural rubber allergies.

Comfort and Service Life
Shelf life is 3 years in the original unopened packaging, stored between 4 °C and 35 °C. Before each use, inspect the visor (no cracks, deep scratches or deformation), the seal membrane and the fabric. Replace immediately if integrity is compromised or if the hood is soiled or contaminated.
The S-403 may be reused provided that appropriate hygiene measures are followed in accordance with the facility's respiratory protection program. Never share a hood between users without prior decontamination. When in doubt about the membrane condition, replace immediately.

What is the difference between the S-403 and the S-103?
The main difference is the level of protection and the sealing design. The S-103 is an economical head cover with APF 25 and a non-sealing integrated suspension : suitable for routine industrial applications. The S-403 features a facial seal membrane and achieves APF 1000, making it appropriate for high-contamination environments where maximum protection is required by regulation or the employer's respiratory protection program.
Is the S-403 hood reusable?
Yes, the S-403 can be reused with proper hygiene measures. Inspect the visor, membrane and fabric before each use. Clean according to the respiratory protection program guidelines in effect at the facility. Actual service life depends on frequency of use, contaminant type and maintenance. Never use a hood showing signs of deterioration : replace immediately.
Which PAPR systems are compatible with the S-403?
The S-403 is compliant for use with 3M Versaflo TR-300, TR-600 and TR-800 blowers, as well as GVP (supplied air), Breathe Easy and Series V systems.
