The Kleton MD444 work platform sits on the forks of a forklift to carry out maintenance work at height without a ladder or scaffold. It is not a self-propelled unit: the forks slide into 7 in wide by 3 in high fork channels and are secured with safety chains. All-welded steel, it offers a 36 X 36 in non-skid 14-gauge steel platform on a 1-1/4 in tubular frame, a hinged gate and a 72 in safety mesh backscreen that keeps the operator and equipment away from the lifting mechanism. Overall, it measures 36 X 36 X 72 in, weighs 230 lb and carries up to 1000 lb; no assembly is required. Designed and made in Senneville, Quebec, by Kleton and welded by Canadian Welding Bureau certified welders, it was tested by Kleton, which declares it compliant with ASME B56.1 (platforms used for elevating personnel) when the appropriate harness and lanyard are worn. This is a manufacturer verification, not a third-party certification; the Kleton certificate of compliance is attached to the product page. 1-year limited warranty.
The Kleton platform is used for building maintenance, lighting and electrical work, HVAC systems, pallet racks and overhead equipment, in warehouses and plants. Warning: lifting a person with a forklift requires special precautions. Only a trained operator should drive the forklift, the person on the platform must wear an appropriate harness and lanyard, and use must comply with the forklift manufacturer's requirements and applicable regulations.
Before each use, check the welds, the non-skid floor, the hinged gate, the mesh backscreen and the fork channel safety chains; remove the platform from service if any part is damaged. Make sure the forks are fully inserted in the fork channels and the safety chains are secured before climbing aboard. Do not exceed 1000 lb.
No. The platform sits on the forks of a forklift: the forks slide into the fork channels and are secured with safety chains.
Kleton tested it and declares it compliant with ASME B56.1 (platforms used for elevating personnel) when the appropriate harness and lanyard are worn. This is a manufacturer verification, not a third-party certification; its certificate is attached to the product page.
The manufacturer only publishes the fork channel openings: 7 in wide by 3 in high. Check your forks and your forklift manufacturer's requirements before use, especially for lifting personnel.
Have the forklift driven by a trained operator, have the person on the platform wear an appropriate harness and lanyard, and follow the forklift manufacturer's requirements and applicable regulations.
No, no assembly is required. It measures 36 X 36 X 72 in, weighs 230 lb and is made in Canada.
For the maintenance electrician replacing light fixtures from this Kleton platform, in addition to the required harness and lanyard, plan for a Pioneer black surveyor vest (V6671) with retroreflective stripes and 12 pockets to keep small parts within reach, TenActiv composite gloves (GSTAFGFNT) with foam nitrile coating, 3M Solus anti-fog safety glasses (YAS1102) with grey lens under bright lighting, a 3M Optime 95 earmuff (OPH6A) near noisy HVAC units and a 3M 8271 mask (R8271) with Cool Flow valve against dust built up on the ceiling.
Below the platform, close off the work area with a yellow and black expandable barrier (EPT195) and a yellow “Danger” barricade tape (ECT3YE7), and warn of forklift traffic with a round “Caution Forklift Traffic” anti-skid vinyl floor sign (EDCH). For low tasks, the Kleton industrial step stool (EMP770) is enough; to store goods on the floor, see the Kleton stacking rack (ERL416).
