The Allegro Industries explosion-proof socket (RA9503) is a safety electrical accessory designed specifically to power explosion-proof blowers and fans used in confined spaces. It is compatible with Allegro Industries models RA9548-25EX and RA9525-50EX — equipment commonly deployed in atmospheres at risk of explosion due to the presence of gases, flammable vapours or combustible dusts. Available in two versions based on the appliance voltage — 110 V / 120 V (manufacturer code 9503-03) or 220 V (manufacturer code 9503-06) — it integrates directly into EX ventilation systems without any installation modification. This type of socket is essential to ensure regulatory compliance and worker safety in any zone classified as a hazardous location.
In a confined space, a single spark can be enough to trigger an explosion when flammable vapours or gases are present. The RA9503 explosion-proof socket is designed to prevent this risk: its solid iron housing with triple-layer finish withstands the harshest industrial conditions and prevents any spark from propagating into the surrounding atmosphere. Each component of this socket has been selected for its role in the overall safety of the EX ventilation system.
The materials of this socket were chosen for their durability and their sealing performance. The iron housing features a triple-layer protective finish against corrosion and mechanical impact. Inside the receptacle, a neoprene gasket seals the connection and prevents infiltration of dirt, water or foreign matter when the socket is in use. A spring-loaded door automatically closes the socket inlet when the plug is removed, preventing dust ingress when the socket is not in use.
The triple-layer iron housing and neoprene gasket create an effective barrier against explosion risk, water infiltration and contaminant ingress. This dual protection ensures connection reliability even in the harshest environments: sewers, underground tanks, sumps or mines.
When the blower is not plugged in, the spring-loaded door automatically closes the socket opening. This simple but effective mechanism prevents the electrical contacts from becoming fouled and extends the service life of the component, even on dusty job sites.
The RA9503 socket is available in 110 V (model 9503-03) and 220 V (model 9503-06), covering both power supply standards used by the Allegro explosion-proof blowers RA9548-25EX and RA9525-50EX. Simply select the voltage that matches your equipment.
This product is available in two voltage versions (110 V / model 9503-03, or 220 V / model 9503-06) — select the voltage matching your explosion-proof blower or fan using the selection menu. Before each use in a confined space, visually inspect the integrity of the iron housing (no cracks, excessive corrosion or deformation), the condition of the neoprene gasket (no hardening, cracking or distortion), the proper operation of the spring-loaded dust door and the condition of the internal electrical contacts. Never connect the socket in an explosive atmosphere without first verifying that the zone classification is compatible with the device specifications. After each operation, verify that the spring-loaded door closes properly and that the neoprene gasket is intact. Explosion-proof equipment must be periodically inspected in accordance with applicable standards (NEC, ATEX, CSA) and the employer's regulatory requirements for hazardous locations.
In confined spaces where flammable gases, vapours or dusts may be present, a standard socket can produce arcs or sparks when connecting or disconnecting — sufficient to trigger an explosion. The RA9503 explosion-proof socket is designed to contain any spark inside its solid iron housing, preventing contact with the surrounding atmosphere. Its use is a regulatory requirement in classified zones (ATEX, NEC, CSA).
Yes. The neoprene gasket provides an effective seal against water, mud and foreign matter commonly encountered on confined space job sites (sewers, tanks, mines). Neoprene is a well-established material known for its resistance to water, light oils and many common industrial solvents. For environments exposed to specific aggressive chemicals, refer to Allegro Industries' technical data sheets.
The RA9503 socket is designed and certified for use with Allegro Industries explosion-proof blowers RA9548-25EX (110 V) and RA9525-50EX. Use with equipment from other manufacturers is technically possible if the electrical specifications (voltage, amperage, plug type) are compatible, but must be validated by a qualified industrial electrician to maintain regulatory compliance in hazardous locations.
To optimize your confined space ventilation, see the 12 in explosion-proof axial blower kit with 25 ft conductive duct to pair with this socket (RA9548-25EX), the Allegro MVP patented manhole ventilation assembly, 8 or 12 in, 6 or 15 ft (RA9510), the compact 8 in axial fan with integrated ducting compartment (RA9533), the 12 in axial fan with moulded polyethylene shell for high-airflow requirements (RA9539-12) and the antistatic explosion-proof 12 in antistatic duct with conductive link, ideal to complete an EX ventilation network (RA9550X).
