Smart Lock™ Nano-Lok™ DBI-SALA® 3M self-retracting lifeline (SRL), 30 ft (9.1 m), galvanized cable, blue. 420 lb (190 kg) capacity including clothing, tools and equipment. Designed for heavy industrial applications where standard 8 ft is insufficient.
3M purchase code: 7100204322, model: 3503800.
Complies with CSA Z259.2.2-17, OSHA 1910.140 and OSHA 1926.502. Made to order by 3M. Allow approximately 1 month for delivery.
The Smart Lock system uses a motion-sensing mechanism to distinguish normal work movements from an actual fall. This technology reduces nuisance lock-ups while ensuring immediate arrest during a fall. Ideal for scaffolding, mezzanines, and elevated platforms where sudden movements are frequent.
Maximum arresting force: 1,350 lbf / 6 kN (workers 130-310 lb) and 1,800 lbf / 8 kN (up to 420 lb). Zinc-plated steel swivel snap hook for easy connection to the dorsal D-ring.
Housing: glass-filled nylon, a robust lightweight thermoplastic for industrial environments. Integrates IRF (RFID) technology for inventory management and inspection traceability. Total weight: 11.77 lb (5.34 kg).
The cable is made of galvanized steel, a zinc-treated metal material designed to resist corrosion. Unlike textile webbing, a steel cable offers superior resistance to friction, sharp edges, and sparks. Galvanization ensures extended longevity in industrial environments exposed to moisture.
The Smart Lock motion-capture mechanism distinguishes normal work movements from an actual fall: it reduces nuisance lock-ups while ensuring an immediate arrest in the event of a fall. Its 420 lb (190 kg) load capacity includes the worker, clothing, tools and equipment, making it ideal for heavy industrial work on scaffolds, mezzanines and platforms.
The zinc-treated galvanized steel cable resists corrosion, abrasion, sharp edges and sparks, delivering extended service life in damp industrial environments. The glass-filled nylon housing stays light yet rugged, and the built-in IRF (RFID) technology streamlines inventory management and inspection traceability.
The anchor point must always be located above the dorsal D-ring of the harness and positioned vertically relative to the user. The worker should remain below the anchor within a maximum 30-degree angle to limit the swing-fall hazard. This device is designed for vertical (overhead) applications; it is not a leading-edge model and must not be used where the lifeline can bear against or slide over a sharp, unprotected edge.
With a 30 ft working length, the total fall clearance and arrest distance are significant and must be verified before every job. Free fall is limited to 2 ft (0.61 m) when the device is used correctly, so never work above the anchor level and never extend the lifeline with an additional connector. Always consult the manufacturer's manual to calculate the minimum required clearance for your specific installation before use.

The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. Pull the lifeline out firmly to confirm the Smart Lock mechanism locks and retracts smoothly, and check the lifeline, connector, housing and fasteners for any sign of deterioration, wear, corrosion or damage. Confirm that all labels remain legible and that the load indicator on the energy absorber shows no sign of deployment. Take the device out of service at the first sign of a defect.
In addition to these routine checks, this retractable device must be inspected by a competent person every 90 to 180 days depending on the type and frequency of use. The recommended service life is 5 years. This product is RFID (IRF) enabled, which streamlines inspection logging and inventory traceability. Sylprotec offers an inspection service; visit the Service tab on our website.
Any equipment subjected to a fall or impact must be taken out of service immediately.
Clean the lifeline with a mild soap and warm water (37°C). Never use bleach, solvents or abrasive products, which can damage the cable and the housing. Wipe the mechanism clean and dry, and remove any welding or grinding residue after use. Let the unit air dry away from excessive heat and prolonged sunlight. To preserve the internal retraction spring, always allow the lifeline to rewind fully into the housing at a controlled speed and store the device retracted when it is not in use.
The Smart Lock system uses a motion-sensing mechanism to distinguish normal work movements from an actual fall. It arrests instantly during a fall while reducing nuisance lock-ups caused by sudden movements or jolts. This technology improves comfort on scaffolding and elevated work platforms.
The Smart Lock series is designed for heavy industrial work where the worker may carry more equipment. The 420 lb (190 kg) capacity includes the worker's weight, clothing, tools, and heavy equipment. This extended capacity makes it suitable for construction workers and industrial environments.
Yes, the lifeline connects to the harness dorsal D-ring via the swivel snap hook. Compatible with all CSA and ANSI compliant harnesses. Verify that the harness is also rated for the required capacity.
For heavy industrial work requiring greater reach, pair with a harness ExoFit X300 Class APL (FPH1403207C) for climbing and positioning, or the harness ExoFit X300 Class AP (FPH1403209C) for positioning. Add safety glasses SecureFit 400 (YASF401BG) and earplugs EARsoft (OA1250). Under "Accessories" at the bottom of this page.
The gloves Dyneema PU A4 (GS13SXGPU) protect your hands at height. The bag Peakworks (FPBAG) stores your equipment. For the 50 ft Smart Lock version with the same galvanized cable, the FPLR3503801 is also available at Sylprotec.
