About its classification:
Fluorescent orange is highly visible during the day and in conditions with lots of artificial light. In most situations, it also offers high contrast with the background. Fluorescent orange, however, is less visible at night and in conditions of low natural or artificial light, such as dawn or dusk.
Silver-gray retroreflective tapes are highly visible in natural or artificial low-light conditions, as they reflect light back towards the source of the light beam (flashlight, car headlights, etc.) They therefore offer the greatest safety at dawn, dusk and night. However, they do not increase visibility during the day.
CSA Z96-22 class 2 level 2: High-visibility safety clothing for workers who perform their duties in close proximity to road traffic and whose maximum speed is 80 km/h. This class is intended for workers in LOW or MODERATE RISK areas, who require greater visibility in poor weather or low light conditions to ensure that workers are seen in low-risk traffic environments.
Compliant with American standard ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 class 2, type P and R: essentially identical to the Canadian standard, it applies to workers who are exposed to moderate levels of risk, when the speed of surrounding vehicle traffic varies between 60 and 80 km/h, or for working conditions requiring greater visibility.
With regard to Type P and R.
Type P: Type P (Public Safety) applies to high-visibility garments specifically designed for first responders such as firefighters, police officers and other public safety personnel. These garments are designed to offer optimum visibility throughout the day and night, including in low-light conditions, to ensure the safety of workers responding to emergency situations.
Type R: Type R (Roadway) is designed for workers who are exposed to the hazards of road traffic. This includes construction workers, road maintenance workers and other professionals working in close proximity to road traffic. Type R garments are designed to offer high visibility in all light conditions, day and night.
Sylprotec tip:
To ensure safety in the field, the surveyor should be equipped with a Construction Helmet (TA14LR) to protect the head from falling objects and impacts. Securefit 400 Series safety glasses (YASF401) are also required to protect eyes from splashes, splinters and UV rays. Noise-cancelling earplugs (OA101) limit the impact of noise on hearing, especially in noisy environments. High-visibility work clothing, such as a surveyor's vest, is essential for good visibility and safety. Cut-resistant gloves (GZ13PEHPFN) are important to protect hands when handling equipment or materials. A fall arrest harness is also required for work at height to prevent falls.
It is crucial that the surveyor is trained in the correct use of this equipment and uses it systematically to guarantee his safety and that of his team.
Peculiarities of:
High-visibility safety clothing must be kept clean and in good condition. Contaminated or dirty retroreflective materials reduce visibility.
Application:
A surveyor's vest is designed to offer maximum visibility and protection in a variety of work environments, especially those requiring high visibility for safety reasons. Here are just some of the situations in which it's advisable to wear a surveyor's vest:
- When working on a construction site, especially near traffic or in areas with heavy equipment.
- When carrying out surveying work, where precision and safety are paramount.
Restriction:
Make sure it fits properly, is clean and in good condition. Replace it if it's torn, soiled or worn.
Maintenance and service life:
Machine wash in cold water, do not use bleach, do not iron. Tumble dry.(Information taken from the garment label, always refer to it).
