Air quality validation is therefore even more critical with this type of equipment. A MSA Altair 4X multi-gas detector (DETEC4G) must measure O₂, LEL, CO and H₂S before entry and throughout the work. For specific contaminants (SO₂, NO₂, NH₃, VOCs), additional sensors are available. Routine inspection before each use by the operator. Qualified inspection by a competent person every 90 or 180 days depending on frequency of use. Recommended service life: 5 years. Immediate out-of-service after fall, impact or SRL activation. In aggressive environments, increase weekly visual inspection frequency. When to choose stainless rather than galvanized?

Choose stainless as soon as your confined space is exposed to chemicals, chlorides, salt water, acidic or alkaline vapors, or regular chemical washing. The initial extra cost is largely offset by the extended service life.

Does the stainless cable support the same loads as galvanized?

Yes, both cables offer the same nominal capacity of 22 kN (5,000 lb) and meet the same CSA Z259.2.2 and ANSI Z359 standards. The difference is solely about corrosion resistance.

Does the stainless cable require special maintenance?

Stainless requires little maintenance, but after each exposure to a corrosive environment, a clear water rinse and drying significantly extends service life. Never use steel wool or abrasive.
