3M Versaflo is a new generation powered air purifying respirator which offers a perfect balance between protection and comfort. It combines components which protect not only one’s respiratory tract but also one’s eyes, face and head. The kit includes, among others, a high nominal capacity battery, which provides 8 to 12 hours of run time and many accessories.

3M Versaflo Powered Air-Purifying Respirator Unit Features RVTR302N

PAPRs, powered air-purifying respirators are systems made to blow filtered air into the respiratory equipment, which provides air automatically rather than mechanically, such as regular respirators. 3M Versaflo differs from other PAPRs by its lightness, its ergonomic and its versatility, which allows everyone, even bearded men, to be protected when well installed. This type of equipment offers protection up to 25 times the permissible exposure limit set by the CNESST or any other government regulation applicable. PAPRs minimize the effort put into breathing and can reduce build up heat inside the face piece. It features a smart engine which adapts accordingly to the HEPA filter in use. It is also equipped with an alarm system - one audible and one LED – which alert the user to either a low battery or low airflow. This PAPR contains no natural rubber latex.

Face Piece Features

The RM307 face piece consists of a hard hat, a visor and a fireproof face seal, which makes it the number 1 choice for intensive industrial work requiring headgear. The hard hat is provided with a six-point head suspension and a rotary ratchet mechanism. It meets ANSI Z89.1-2003 impact protection standards and is classified type 1 and class G which are approved for industrial work. The hard hat part is made of hard fireproof polyester. Please note that it is not yet CSA approved.

The RM307 meets ANSI Z87.1-2010 standards regarding eye and face protection. 3M RM307 is equipped with a premium visor and a flame resistant face seal. RM927 visor is made of an anti-scratch covered polycarbonate resistant to impacts. A RM928 peel-off visor cover comes with the complete system. This piece features an easily adjustable deflector, which allows users to direct the location of the airflow inside the headgear for increased control and comfort.

The RM307 is equipped with a flame-resistant face seal, which not only ensures an airtight environment, but protects one from flames for a limited time. Please note that to ensure airtight sealing, one must avoid the contact of facial hair with the face seal. Failing that, the manufacturer concedes that the equipment might not meet NIOSH standards.

This type of respiratory protection system is recommended for work that will loosen solid particles in the air such as work in metal processing manufactories and assembly plants. It’s recommended for polishing, surfacing and smelting. The HEPA filters which come with the kit protect one from most airborne particles with a 99,97% efficiency.

Do Not Use For

This respirator does not offer protection against vapors and gases. It can neither ensure the user’s intrinsic safety in an environment representing an explosion risk. It is strongly discouraged to wear any kind of respirator for application with sandblasting. It is also highly advised to stay away from environments that exceed 25 times the permissible exposure limit set by the CNESST or any other government regulation applicable. One should never use a respirator in an oxygen-deprived environment (an atmosphere with less than 19,5 % oxygen).

3M Versaflo Powered Air-Purifying Respirator Maintenance and Service Life

For safer performance, the manufacturer’s recommendations must be followed. 3M recommends an inspection of the respiratory equipment before each use; to wash the respirator after each use; and to store the respirator back to its packaging.

One should never wash its respirator with any type of solvent, since they can weaken some components, which can affect the efficiency of the equipment. The engine, the battery and the HEPA filter must never be immersed in water. The face seal must not be washed, since it may lose its fireproof properties.
