Semi-automatic self-locking carabiner, pear shape

The Peakworks semi-automatic self-locking carabiner is an anchorage connector designed for fall protection. It requires a double action to open and locks automatically on closing, preventing any accidental opening. Its steel hook in an pear shape provides a 2 in (56 mm) gate opening, convenient for anchoring fall protection equipment such as lanyards and self-retracting lifelines. Peakworks manufacturer codes: V860130, model CP-04011-1. Sold individually.

It complies with the CSA Z259.12 and ANSI Z359.12 standards and can withstand a force of 8093 lb (36 kN) without deforming. The rotating locking sleeve withstands a force of 3600 lb.

Advantages of the self-locking carabiner

Rugged and safe, this double-action, auto-locking carabiner ensures a reliable connection in the fall protection chain, while staying simple and quick to operate with one hand.

Features and safety of the carabiner

  • Semi-automatic mechanism: double action to open, automatic locking
  • Steel hook in an pear shape
  • 2 in (56 mm) gate opening
  • Strength: 8093 lb (36 kN) without deformation
  • Rotating locking sleeve withstanding 3600 lb
  • Compliant with CSA Z259.12 and ANSI Z359.12
  • Designed to anchor lanyards and self-retracting lifelines

Job sites and industries where this carabiner is required

  • Work at height and scaffolding
  • Construction, general industry and maintenance
  • Connecting lanyards, retractables and anchorage points
  • Any fall protection application requiring a self-locking connector

Use and connection of the carabiner

The carabiner connects between the fall arrest device (lanyard, retractable) and the anchorage point or harness ring. Its double action and automatic locking prevent involuntary opening under load. Always check that the gate is fully closed and locked before use, and avoid any load on the gate (the carabiner must work along its major axis). As with any fall protection equipment, account for the fall distance and the free clearance below the worker.

Inspection and maintenance of the carabiner

The worker is responsible for a routine inspection before each use: look for any sign of degradation, wear, malfunction or breakage, and check the gate and locking sleeve. This carabiner should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the user. Any equipment subjected to a fall or impact must be removed from service. For cleaning, use mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C), with no bleach or abrasive or chemical products; air-dry without excessive heat. The gate mechanism is lubricated only with powdered graphite. Sylprotec offers a fall protection equipment inspection service; see the Services tab.

FAQ about the self-locking carabiner

Here are the most frequent questions about the opening, strength and use of this semi-automatic carabiner.

How does this carabiner lock?

It is semi-automatic: a double action is required to open it, and it locks automatically on closing, preventing any accidental opening.

What force does this carabiner withstand?

It withstands a force of 8093 lb (36 kN) without deforming, and its rotating locking sleeve withstands 3600 lb, in compliance with CSA Z259.12 and ANSI Z359.12.

What is the 2 in (56 mm) opening for?

It determines the size of the anchorage points and rings the carabiner can connect to (lanyards, self-retracting lifelines, structures).

Suggested anchorage and fall protection products

To build a complete fall protection system, this carabiner combines with the rest of the protection chain. Depending on your anchorage points, you will also choose another carabiner (FPAM88) and a model (FPAM86), then the associated equipment.

Also consider a class A harness (FPH1000A), a panic-lock grab (FPACC), a vertical lifeline rope (FPAC), a stainless permanent anchorage connector (FPA826), a temporary concrete anchor (FPAF075N), a fixed anchorage connector (FPA822), an anchor sling (FPAE) and a storage bag (FPBAG).
