This 2.5-inch threaded cap is an essential protective accessory for fire department connections and standpipe valves. It is specifically designed with QST (Quebec Standard Thread), making it the standard for installations throughout the province of Quebec.
Thread Protection: Prevents the accumulation of debris, dust, or ice that could damage the male threads and hinder a quick connection during an emergency.
Local Compliance: Utilizes the QST thread pattern (7 threads per inch), which is indispensable for compatibility with fire department equipment in Quebec.
Included Safety Chain: Equipped with a heavy-duty chain that secures the cap to the fitting, preventing it from being lost or misplaced after use.
Durable Material: Engineered to withstand Quebec's rigorous weather conditions, ensuring reliable long-term protection.
Nominal Diameter: 2.5 inches (65 mm).
Thread Type: QST (Quebec Standard Thread).
Accessory: Integrated retaining chain.
Application: Siamese connections, fire valves, and standpipes.
QST is the technical standard used by the majority of fire departments in the province of Quebec. Using the wrong thread (such as the American NST) would prevent firefighters from connecting their hoses to your building during a fire.
It should be installed on any exposed 2.5-inch male fitting, notably on private fire hydrants, standpipe outlets in stairwells, or Siamese connection inlets on building facades.
While the primary function is thread protection, the chain is highly recommended by building inspectors to ensure the cap remains near the valve once unscrewed.
This cap is primarily intended as protection against debris. While it can contain a minor seep, it is not designed to serve as a primary shut-off valve under constant high pressure.
"A fire department connection without a cap is an invitation for trouble. Bird nests, trash, or even acts of vandalism can obstruct the piping. During your winter inspections, ensure the cap is not frozen shut. A cap with a chain in good condition ensures that firefighters can access your water network without delay, which can save your building during a disaster."
