This hose belt (also known as a hose strap or retainer) is a critical accessory designed to keep the discharge hose of a portable fire extinguisher securely tucked against the cylinder. It prevents the hose from dangling, which could lead to damage or create a tripping hazard during storage or transport.
Dimensions: Diameter 7” (17.8 cm), thickness 2 mm (5/64”)
Material: Black plastic.
Why use a hose strap?
A hose strap safely secures the extinguisher hose to the extinguisher body. This helps protect the hose against accidental bumps and snags, and increases its service life.
How to install the hose strap?
Place the hose strap around the fire extinguisher. Adjust the strap by tightening it until it is snug against the extinguisher. Cut the excess length of the strap, then clip the hose into the strap hook.
It’s essential that the hose trap be very tightly secured to the extinguisher, so that it won’t move or slip. Otherwise, the hose might become stuck in the strap when you need to use the extinguisher. We recommend performing a test before cutting the excess strap length. The strap hook fits 3/8” (9.5. mm) diameter hoses.
Universal Fit for 3/8" Hoses: Specifically sized for hoses with a 3/8-inch diameter, commonly found on 5 lb to 10 lb ABC dry chemical extinguishers.
Durable Elastic Construction: Made from high-quality, weather-resistant elastic material that maintains its tension over time, even in varying temperatures.
Enhanced Safety: By keeping the hose secured, it ensures that the extinguisher remains compact and ready for immediate use without the hose getting snagged.
Easy Installation: Can be slipped onto the cylinder quickly without the need for specialized tools, providing an instant fix for loose or dangling hoses.
Compatibility: Designed for hoses with a 3/8" (approx. 9.5 mm) diameter.
Material: Heavy-duty elastic band.
Application: Ideal for small to medium-sized portable fire extinguishers.
Color: Typically black for a professional look that matches most extinguisher hardware.
Measure the outside diameter of your extinguisher's hose. If it is approximately 3/8 of an inch, this belt is the correct size. It is the most common size for standard 5 lb and 10 lb dry chemical units.
While all elastic materials eventually wear, these belts are manufactured using industrial-grade materials designed to withstand years of being stretched around an extinguisher cylinder.
No. In an emergency, you simply pull the hose out from the belt. The belt stays on the cylinder while the hose is free to be aimed at the base of the fire.
Yes, the material is resistant to common environmental factors, though it is always recommended to check the condition of all extinguisher accessories during your monthly visual inspections.
"A dangling hose is more than just untidy; it's a safety deficiency. It can get caught on clothing or equipment, potentially knocking the extinguisher off its bracket. During your monthly OHS rounds, if you notice a hose is no longer held tight against the tank, replacing the hose belt is a low-cost way to ensure your equipment remains in top operational condition."
