The non-conductive nylon cable is intended for electricians who lock out several breakers on the same panel, a disconnect and its handle, or grouped controls. Mechanics and pipefitters also use it to gather side-by-side gate valves. For a PVC-coated steel cable, see the Brady 170408 lockout cable (CACC170408). Follow the facility's written lockout program and electrical work rules.
Shut down the equipment and isolate the energy sources according to your written procedure, following electrical work rules. Thread the cable through each point to be locked, pull it tight so that no handle can move, then secure it in the device and apply your padlock. Inspect the cable before each use and take it out of service if it is cut, melted or frayed.
No. The cable is sold on its own; it is used with a Brady all-purpose cable lockout device and a padlock, sold separately.
Nylon does not conduct current, which makes it suited to locking out electrical equipment, according to the manufacturer.

The 170409 red nylon cable is non-conductive, which makes it the choice for electrical lockout. The 170408 PVC-coated steel cable offers flexibility and strength with good chemical and corrosion resistance.
Individually, without device or padlock. This item is not stocked: allow 18 to 21 days for delivery.
For the electrician who locks out a panel or a group of controls, plan for 3M Privo safety glasses (YA12261) with a clear polycarbonate lens, Endura Pro cut- and impact-resistant gloves (G378GKGVBE), a V-Gard cap-style type 1 class E hardhat (TA84), a Pioneer FR-TECH 7 oz flame-resistant shirt (V129) and 3M PELTOR EEP-100 electronic earplugs (OAEEP100).
To lock the device, add the non-conductive padlock (CA1X) with a Xenex body and 6-pin cylinder, the American Lock aluminum red (CA1ARG) padlock, the keyed-different padlock Brady (CAVST76) SDPL-76ST in nylon, the circuit breaker padlock (CA1C) with flexible steel cable and the laminated steel padlock with a 2 in shackle (CA1LH). If the device is locked with a Master Lock Zenex padlock, add the photo labels (CAETS142) to identify the worker: they stick to the padlock, not to the cable.
This 8 ft red nylon replacement cable is listed in the Brady “All Purpose Cable Lockout” technical data sheet dated 05/05/2022 for the Brady 170377 all-purpose cable lockout device (CACC170377), sold without cable. This device accepts cables from 3 to 5 mm in diameter.
