The Lad-Saf DBI-SALA 3M static cable safety sleeve 5000338 is a manual fall protection device designed to travel along a vertical steel cable lifeline. Its manual design lets the user lock it in place, making it ideal for positioning or travel restriction. Fully metallic and extremely rugged, it locks onto the cable through a fast cam locking system that grips firmly in the event of a fall.
The sleeve is intended for use with a 7 x 19 steel cable lifeline of 9.5 mm (3/8 in), galvanized or stainless steel. It must be paired with a 3 ft (0.9 m) shock-absorbing lanyard to reduce the arresting forces transmitted to the worker during a fall. Its durable, lightweight all-metal construction makes it a reliable choice for highly abrasive and corrosive environments.
This sleeve can be attached or detached anywhere along the lifeline, which simplifies worker access and repositioning. It is a single-user device with a load capacity of 310 lb (141 kg), compliant with the ANSI A10.14-1991 standard. Like any fall protection device, it only provides protection when used with a compatible safety harness and lifeline: it is a complete system.
The sleeve uses a cam lever that locks the device onto the lifeline in the event of a fall. The friction-sensitive cam grips the cable firmly and immobilizes the sleeve, reducing the arresting forces transmitted to the worker. The device is designed to move freely in normal use, then lock quickly as soon as a fall load is applied.
Before each use, inspect the sleeve: metal body, cam lever, spring, carabiner and labels. Make sure the cam moves freely and locks correctly. Any device that has arrested a fall or shows wear, deformation or corrosion must be removed from service. A formal inspection by a competent person other than the user is required at least once a year, according to 3M manufacturer instructions. Clean the sleeve with mild soap and water, then let it air dry. Protect the mechanism against corrosion and store the device in a clean, dry place away from moisture. Do not lubricate the cam without manufacturer approval. Follow the 3M user manual instructions for maintenance frequency and method.
