The 3M DBI-SALA Nano-Lok self-retracting lifeline (model 3101507) is a compact fall arrest device built specifically for hot work. Unlike a standard energy-absorbing lanyard, this self-retracting device keeps the web taut at all times and locks up instantly the moment a fall is detected, reducing fall distance. Its fire-resistant web makes it suited to workers exposed to sparks, heat and weld spatter: welders, structural steel erectors, refinery and heavy industrial workers who need dependable fall protection in harsh environments.
This single-leg model provides a 6 ft web. Its self-retracting mechanism extends and retracts with the worker's movements, leaving no excess slack. In the event of a fall, the system locks instantly to arrest the descent. The Nano-Lok connector attaches securely to the dorsal D-ring of the harness, providing a safe and well-positioned connection at the worker's back. At the opposite end, a small carabiner makes connection to the anchor point easy.
The main web of this model is made of Kevlar and Nomex, fibers recognized for their resistance to fire and heat. This construction is what sets the device apart from polyester web models and makes it fit for hot work, where sparks and flames would compromise ordinary webbing. The Nano-Lok connector provides attachment to the dorsal D-ring. The small carabiner at the end is made of zinc-plated steel, with a gate opening of 11/16 in / 17 mm, offering good corrosion resistance. This product is certified to the ANSI Z359.14 and CSA Z259.2.2 standards. The displayed capacity is 310 lb / 140 kg (including the person, tools, clothing and equipment), in line with the CSA cap recognized under the RSST in Quebec.
This device suits welding, structural steel erection, refinery work, petrochemical operations and any environment where heat, sparks or weld spatter are present. Its flame-resistant web makes it a go-to choice for hot work permits. Its compact size and single leg make it ideal for direct attachment to the dorsal D-ring, leaving the worker's hands free.
With an anchor placed vertically above the dorsal D-ring, this self-retracting device supports a 310 lb (140 kg) worker, including clothing, tools and equipment. The anchor angle must not exceed 30 degrees from vertical, and horizontal configuration is not recommended on a model not rated for sharp edges. The arrest distance varies with the anchor layout: always consult the manufacturer's manual to establish the required fall clearance below the worker before use.

The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. The worker must check the retraction and locking of the Kevlar and Nomex web, the condition of the Nano-Lok connector and end carabiner, the stitching, and note any sign of degradation, wear, burn or breakage. Particular attention is required in hot work, where heat and weld spatter stress the web. Replace the equipment at the first sign of failure. This device should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the worker, according to the manufacturer's frequency and conditions. Any equipment that has withstood a fall or an impact must be taken out of service. Sylprotec offers a fall protection inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.
For cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C). Do not use bleach or abrasive or chemical products that could damage the flame-resistant fibers. Keep the self-retracting mechanism clean and dry, and remove welding or grinding residue after use. Air dry without excessive heat in a clean environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and any source of contamination.
Kevlar and Nomex resist fire and heat. Ordinary polyester web would melt or degrade on contact with sparks and weld spatter. This construction makes the device fit for hot work.
The Nano-Lok connector attaches securely to the dorsal D-ring, located at the worker's back, for optimal fall arrest positioning.
The displayed capacity is 310 lb / 140 kg, including the person, tools, clothing and equipment, in accordance with CSA Z259.2.2.
Yes. It is certified to CSA Z259.2.2 in addition to ANSI Z359.14, making it compliant for use under the RSST in Quebec.
Beyond fall arrest, equip the welder or heat-exposed worker from head to toe: protect their hands with flame-resistant Kevlar gloves (GS13FRNE) that bring the same fire resistance as the retractable's webbing, their eyes with safety eyewear (YA12E90801), and their hearing in noisy areas with earplugs (OA1103) or earmuffs (OPH7A). Finally, protect their body with a coverall orange 100% flame-resistant ARC 2 (V1765) that resists the heat and flames of hot work.
To complete your fall protection system, connect this retractable to an ExoFit X300 cross-over harness (FPH140319XCA) or to the vest-style ExoFit X300 model (FPH111319XCA), secure it with a permanent anchorage connector (FPA826) or a reusable anchor (FPAF075N), and post the mandatory-harness sign (ECO130) on the worksite; other complementary products are suggested under the accessories tab at the bottom of the page.
