The 3M Speedglas 3.0× magnifying lens (06-0500-59) is an optical accessory designed for welders who need enhanced vision during precision welding tasks. It slides directly into the inner slot of the auto-darkening filter on Speedglas 9100 series helmets, with no tools or modifications required.
3M purchase code: 7000127146, model: 06-0500-59
This optical plate provides 3.0 diopters of magnification, allowing welders to clearly distinguish fine weld beads, difficult-position joints, and intricate assemblies. Compatible with 9100 QR, L-Series, 9100, SL, 9100-Air, 9100 FX, and 9100 FX-Air helmets, it integrates seamlessly without compromising the host helmet's protection.
Installation is straightforward: the lens slides into the dedicated inner slot of the Speedglas filter. No additional adapter is needed for the 9100 series models. Quick removal and cleaning at end of shift. The product is individually packaged (6.25 in × 5 in × 0.186 in) and weighs 0.057 lb. Manufactured in Taiwan to 3M standards.
The Speedglas 3.0× magnifying lens is particularly recommended in the following sectors:
Precision welding: fine-part assemblies, TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, and alloys where visual accuracy is critical.
Industrial maintenance: repair of small-dimension components on production equipment, where every bead must be perfect.
Metal construction: structural assembly where certain joints are hard to access and require close-up vision.
Infrastructure maintenance: on-site welding of replacement parts, conduits, pressure equipment.
The magnifying lens does not alter the weight or balance of the Speedglas helmet. It is transparent, lightweight (under 30 g), and produces no notable lateral distortion. The welder can remove it in seconds when no longer needed, facilitating easy switching between precision work and standard welding tasks.
To maintain optical clarity, clean the lens with a slightly dampened lint-free cloth. Visually inspect before each use: any deep scratches or clouding that reduces visibility justifies replacement. Store inside the closed helmet or in a clean case to prevent scratches.
The 3.0× magnifying lens (06-0500-59) is designed for Speedglas 9100 series helmets, including the 9100 QR, 9100, SL, 9100-Air, 9100 FX, 9100 FX-Air, and L-Series models. It fits into the inner slot of the auto-darkening filter on these models. It is not designed for the G5-01 or G5-03 series, which have a different architecture.
Yes, 3M offers multiple magnification levels for the 9100 series. The 06-0500-59 corresponds to 3.0× magnification, suitable for welders needing more correction or working on very fine parts. Lenses of 1× and 2× are also available at Sylprotec for less demanding needs. Only one magnification level is installed in the filter at a time.
No. The magnifying lens is an inner optical accessory of the Speedglas helmet, not a standalone PPE. It does not replace safety glasses (YA11514) worn separately. When the helmet is raised, eyes are no longer protected by the helmet: it is recommended to wear ANSI Z87.1-compliant safety eyewear underneath for continuous eye protection.
To complete your welding protection, Sylprotec recommends these personal protective equipment items: Superior Touch nylon PU gloves (GS13BKPUQ) for precision work, Virtua Max clear lens safety eyewear (YA11514), EarSoft BT-200 disposable earplugs (OA1252C), Pioneer arc flash ARC 2 flame-resistant coveralls (V7705), and Horizon nylon foam latex (G051144) gloves. Under "Accessories" at the bottom of the page, find Speedglas welding helmet accessories.
Direct Speedglas 9100 family accessories: inner protection (R06-0200-30) plate for 9100 helmets, outer plate (R06-0200-51) protection for 9100 helmets, and the SG-90 carrying bag (RSG90) for Speedglas helmets.
