Handyman 300D orange high-visibility Viking waterproof jacket for extreme conditions

The Handyman® 300D Viking waterproof jacket, in high-visibility orange, is designed for extreme conditions. Made of 300-denier polyester oxford coated with PVC and fitted with silver retroreflective stripes framed in fluorescent yellow, it complies with the CSA Z96-15 class 2 level 2 standard when worn alone, and reaches class 3 with the matching Handyman pants (VP231). Perfectly watertight thanks to its 10,000 mm rating, it is ideal for daily use in heavy weather. Available in sizes from small (S) to triple extra-large (3XL) via the drop-down menu above. Viking manufacturer code: 6327JO.

10,000 mm waterproof rating of the Handyman oxford 300D PVC jacket

This polyester oxford raincoat is made with 300-denier yarns, the inside laminated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for waterproofing. The manufacturer gives it a 10,000 mm waterproof rating: the jacket withstands a 10 m water column before the first drops pass through the fabric. All seams are taped and heat-sealed, and the inside is fully mesh-lined for comfort. The manufacturer rates its service life at about twenty-five washes.

Silver and yellow reflective stripes of the high-visibility jacket

This waterproof jacket features silver retroreflective stripes framed by fluorescent yellow stripes, each 50 mm (2 in) wide: two vertical stripes at the front, two X-crossed stripes at the back, one horizontal stripe at the waist and one around the wrists.

Fluorescent yellow (safety yellow-green) is highly visible in daylight and in low natural light (dawn, dusk), offering high contrast against the background. Fluorescent orange is highly visible in daylight and under strong artificial lighting. The silver retroreflective stripes return light toward its source (flashlight, vehicle headlights, etc.) and provide maximum safety at dawn, dusk and at night, without increasing visibility in full daylight.

Design of the Handyman jacket with double lining and ventilation

This jacket is easily worn over warm clothing while ensuring good airflow thanks to its loose fit. It has two stitched inner linings (polyester mesh at the upper back, finely woven polyester elsewhere) and an inner mesh pocket protected by a Velcro® flap. The jacket closes with a single-slider plastic zipper protected by a hook-and-loop storm flap. Six flap-protected ventilation holes at the front ensure breathability, complemented by two flap front pockets. The sleeves adjust with hook-and-loop fasteners and the included hood is removable. This jacket is not flame-resistant.

Benefits of PVC lamination and 300D oxford weave

The PVC-laminated polyester oxford jacket is made with 300-denier yarns, giving it a medium weight: light enough for comfort, sturdy enough for adequate protection. Oxford is a weave widely used in industry, obtained by crossing a weft yarn and a warp yarn to create its characteristic grid. The advantage of the inner PVC lamination is perfect waterproofing, even in strong wind: PVC repels water. However, it is heavier than polyurethane, breathes less and stiffens in very cold weather.

PVC waterproofing and chemical resistance of the Handyman jacket

Waterproofing is ensured by the double taped, heat-sealed seams. This type of raincoat suits workers exposed to low or moderate risks of chemical splashes: PVC is a thermoplastic polymer resistant to chemicals, oils, greases, acids, bases, solvents, oxidizers and ozone, as well as abrasion and stretching. Recommended for temperatures of -5 °C to 18 °C with precipitation and strong winds. Being non-porous, PVC keeps workers dry during torrential rain but breathes little: a sauna effect may occur, to be considered based on the effort at work.

Applications of the Handyman jacket for traffic work

This jacket is recommended for workers operating around moving vehicles: construction workers, office staff, drivers, transport employees, etc.

Care of the Handyman Viking waterproof jacket

Machine wash this jacket on a delicate cycle in cold or lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Air-dry away from sunlight. Never tumble dry, iron or dry-clean.
