The nozzle with handle for 2.5 in hose is moulded in polycarbonate and fitted with a NS thread, the threading used for the province of Nova Scotia (Zone 1, NS thread). It projects a fog spray, a full stream or closes completely, making it a versatile tool for firefighters. The fog stream quickly brings fires under control by creating a water mist that cools the affected area, reduces smoke and lowers the amount of oxygen available to the fire. The nozzle also creates a water barrier that protects the responder from flames and heat. Its handle makes it easier to grip and helps the user move forward. An economical nozzle, it is sold individually.
Polycarbonate was chosen for its light weight and impact resistance : it lightens the nozzle without sacrificing strength, which makes handling easier during a prolonged response. The maximum flow reaches 150 U.S. gallons per minute at 100 psi. Note : this nozzle covers class A and B fires only and is not ULC approved.
Beyond its versatile stream, this nozzle stands out for its regional threading and its handling.
The nozzle projects a fog spray, a full stream or performs a complete shut-off, allowing the stream to be matched to the situation right at the nozzle.
The NS thread matches the standard used for the province of Nova Scotia (Zone 1, NS thread), and the handle makes it easier to grip and helps the user move forward during fire attack.
This 2.5 in nozzle is found in many environments :
In Canada, the threading of 2.5 in hoses varies by province or territory. The following table presents the main thread codes, their region of application, their outside diameter (ODM) and their number of threads per inch (TPI) :
| Thread types applicable in Canada by province or territory | |||
| Code | Provinces or territories | ODM (outside diameter) | TPI (threads per inch) |
| AMA | Alberta Mutual Aid | 2.990 | 8 |
| BCT | British Columbia | 3.000 | 8 |
| CSA | Canadian Standard (Ontario) | 3.125 | 5 |
| QST | Standard Quebec | 3.031 | 7 |
| WCT | Western Canada Fire Underwriters | 3.250 | 6 |
| NOVA | Nova Scotia - Zone 1 | 3.234 | 5 |
| QMT | Quebec / Montreal Combination | 3.031 | 7 |
Fog nozzles are not suitable for all fire types. In particular, they should not be used on combustible metal fires such as magnesium, titanium, sodium and potassium. It is important to know how to handle a fog nozzle correctly and not to fight a fire if you are unsure of what to do. The NS thread is found in the province of Nova Scotia (Zone 1, NS thread), but you may sometimes come across equipment with other thread types.
Here are some general tips for using a fire nozzle safely and effectively :
Equivalent versions exist for other provinces, available on request through customer service : IBPL-250QST (QST thread, Quebec), IBPL-250CSA (CSA thread, Ontario) and IBPL-250BAT (AMA/BCT threads, Western Canada). For maintenance, clean the nozzle after each use with a soft, damp cloth, without harsh chemicals or abrasives, and store it in a dry place away from direct light and extreme temperatures.
