The Kidde i9010CA is a 10-year, sealed battery, single station ionization smoke alarm. The i9010CA will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket. There are no pulltabs, no switches, everything is automatic. At the end of the alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement. The customer can use a simple tool such as a screwdriver to deactivate the unit, stopping the low battery chirp and making it safe for disposal.
No returnable if used. For more information about our return policy, please refer to the Orders and Returns.
This smoke detector utilizes ionization technology, which is highly effective at detecting fast-flaming fires. Its primary advantage is the integrated, sealed lithium power cell that provides continuous power for 10 years. This eliminates the annoyance of low-battery "chirps" in the middle of the night and the need for annual battery replacements.
This model is a top choice for simplifying residential safety maintenance:
10-Year Sealed Battery: Equipped with a lithium battery designed to last the entire 10-year life of the alarm (the maximum recommended lifespan for any smoke detector).
Ionization Technology: Responds quickly to fast-flaming fires that produce clear flames (such as paper, wood, or grease fires).
Worry-Free Installation: No wiring required. It installs easily on any wall or ceiling, making it ideal for retrofitting homes without existing electrical boxes for alarms.
Test/Hush Button: Features a single button to perform weekly functional tests or to temporarily silence nuisance alarms caused by cooking smoke or steam.
End-of-Life Warning: After 10 years of operation, the unit will emit a specific signal to notify you that the entire device must be replaced.
Sensor Type: Ionization.
Power Source: 3V Sealed Lithium Battery (included).
Alarm Volume: 85 decibels at 10 feet.
Operating Temperature: 4.4°C (40°F) to 37.8°C (100°F).
Certifications: UL or ULC listed (conforms to Canadian safety standards).
Warranty: 10-year limited warranty on both the unit and the battery.
Strategic Placement: Install at least one smoke alarm on every level of the home, specifically inside or near every bedroom and in hallways leading to exits.
Activation: The alarm typically activates automatically once it is securely attached to the mounting bracket for the first time.
Routine Maintenance: Gently vacuum the exterior vents of the detector once a month to remove dust or cobwebs that could cause false alarms or hinder smoke detection.
No. The battery is sealed and non-replaceable. After 10 years, the electronic components and the sensor itself degrade; therefore, the entire unit must be replaced to ensure continued safety.
Ionization models are more sensitive to cooking vapors. If installed near a kitchen, place the unit at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from cooking appliances to minimize nuisance alarms.
The 10-Year Rule: The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) mandates replacing all smoke alarms every 10 years. This model makes compliance easy by aligning the battery life with the device life.
Balanced Protection: For the best protection, safety experts recommend a "dual-sensor" approach—combining ionization alarms (for fast flames) with photoelectric alarms (for slow-smoldering fires) throughout your property.
