Lad-Saf DBI-SALA 3M 1 x 7 stainless steel swaged cable for vertical lifeline

3M purchase codes: series 7100184346 and following, Lad-Saf models 6105020 to 6105200 (1 x 7 stainless cable, 20 to 200 ft).

Available in 6 cable lengths, from 20 ft (6.1 m) to 200 ft (61 m). Select the desired length from the drop-down menu.

The Lad-Saf DBI-SALA 3M swaged cable is the core of the Lad-Saf vertical safety system: it is the fixed lifeline on which the climber's detachable sleeve slides. This 9.5 mm (3/8 in) cable is of 1 x 7 construction, a single strand of seven stainless steel wires, "regular lay" preformed. Rugged and highly abrasion-resistant, it offers a minimum breaking strength of 80 kN (about 18,000 lb) and is especially suited to corrosive environments: exposed outdoors, seaside, chemical settings, telecommunication towers. Available in lengths from 20 to 200 ft, factory-swaged and ready to install.

Advantages of the 1 x 7 stainless cable

  • 1 x 7 construction: fewer, larger wires, a rigid cable highly resistant to abrasion and breakage.
  • Minimum breaking strength of 80 kN (about 18,000 lb).
  • Stainless steel, uncoated, ideal for corrosive environments and seaside use.
  • Factory-swaged cable, ready to mount on the system head.
  • 9.5 mm (3/8 in) diameter compliant with federal standard RR-W-410.
  • Wide choice of lengths, from 20 to 200 ft, to match the ladder height.

Specifications of the stainless fall-arrest cable

  • Diameter: 9.5 mm (3/8 in).
  • Construction: 1 x 7 (one strand of seven wires), left "regular lay" preform.
  • Metal: stainless steel, silver color.
  • Minimum breaking strength: 80 kN (about 18,000 lb).
  • Compliant with RR-W-410; used with a detachable sleeve, it forms part of an ANSI Z359.16 compliant system.

Role of the cable in the Lad-Saf vertical system

The cable is the fixed lifeline of the Lad-Saf system: the user's detachable sleeve slides along it and locks instantly in the event of a fall. The cable attaches to the system head at the top of the ladder and is tensioned at the bottom, while cable guides hold it along the path, at about one guide every 30 ft.

Metal consistency across the whole fall-arrest system

A Lad-Saf system is assembled with a single metal from top to bottom. You never pair a galvanized head with a stainless cable, or a cable with guides of a different metal, to avoid galvanic corrosion and ensure longevity. For a consistent stainless assembly, pair this 1 x 7 stainless cable with a stainless system head and stainless cable guides.

Choosing between 1 x 7 and 7 x 19 cable

The 1 x 7 construction uses fewer, larger wires: the cable is stiffer, highly resistant to abrasion and breakage, a little harder to handle. The 7 x 19 construction uses many fine wires for a more flexible, manageable cable, with slightly lower breaking strength. Choose 1 x 7 stainless for corrosion resistance in harsh environments.

Applications of the cable on fixed ladders and towers

Vertical access on fixed ladders in utilities, wind energy, oil and gas, power transmission, telecommunications and industrial structure maintenance. Its corrosion resistance makes it the preferred choice for outdoor installations and harsh settings.

Inspection of the lifeline cable

Inspect the cable before each use: check for broken wires, kinks, corrosion, wear or damage to the end swages. Remove any damaged cable from service and have the system checked by a competent person at the required frequency.

Maintenance of the stainless fall-arrest cable

Keep the cable clean and dry, away from harsh chemicals. Store it flat or coiled without kinks. Any repair or component replacement must be performed by 3M DBI-SALA or a qualified person.

FAQ about the Lad-Saf 1 x 7 stainless swaged cable

Which sleeve should be used with this cable ?

A detachable Lad-Saf X2 or X3 sleeve: this is required for the system to comply with ANSI Z359.16.

How many cable guides should be provided ?

One guide every 20 to 40 ft, with a recommendation of about one guide per 30 ft.

Can I mix stainless and galvanized on the same system ?

No. The whole system must be the same metal to avoid galvanic corrosion: cable, head and guides all stainless together.

Which cable length should I choose ?

Choose the length according to the ladder or structure height, from 20 ft (6.1 m) to 200 ft (61 m). Select it from the drop-down menu.

Is this cable corrosion resistant ?

Yes. It is stainless steel, without zinc coating, which makes it especially suited to corrosive environments, seaside and chemical settings.
