The Lad-Saf DBI-SALA 3M swaged cable is the heart of the Lad-Saf vertical safety system: it is the fixed lifeline the detachable sleeve rides on. This 9.5 mm (3/8 in) cable has a 1 x 7 construction, a single strand of seven galvanized steel wires, left regular lay. Rugged, economical and highly abrasion resistant, it offers a minimum breaking strength of 15,400 lb (68.5 kN) and suits standard environments. Available from 10 to 300 ft, it is factory swaged and ready to install.
The cable is the fixed lifeline of the Lad-Saf system: the user's detachable sleeve rides on it and locks instantly in a fall. The cable attaches to the system head at the top of the ladder and tensions at the bottom, while cable guides keep it aligned along the run, roughly one guide every 30 ft.
A Lad-Saf system is assembled with one and the same metal top to bottom. Never pair a galvanized head with a stainless cable, or a cable with guides of another metal, to avoid galvanic corrosion and ensure longevity. For a coherent galvanized assembly, pair this 1 x 7 galvanized cable with a galvanized system head and galvanized cable guides.
The 1 x 7 construction has fewer, larger wires: the cable is stiffer, highly resistant to abrasion and breakage, a bit stiffer to handle. The 7 x 19 construction multiplies fine wires for a more flexible cable with slightly lower breaking strength. Choose 1 x 7 galvanized for ruggedness and value in standard environments.

Inspect the cable before each use: check for broken wires, kinks, corrosion, wear or damage to the end swages. Remove any damaged cable from service and have the system checked by a competent person at the frequency required by the 3M manufacturer instructions and applicable provincial regulations.
Keep the cable clean and dry, away from harsh chemicals. Store it flat or coiled without kinks. Any repair or component replacement must be done by 3M DBI-SALA or a qualified person.
A detachable Lad-Saf X2 or X3 sleeve: it is required for the system's ANSI Z359.16 compliance.
One guide every 20 to 40 ft, the recommendation being one guide per 30 ft.

Then complete with the galvanized guides and accessories consistent with the cable: the pole cable guide (FPA6100136); the galvanized pole intermediate guide (FPA6100430); the end-of-line cable guide (FPA61005XX); the flexible lifeline counterweight (FPA5901583). Also plan a RollGliss R550 rescue and descent device (FPLR550) for controlled descent, and mark off the area at the foot of the ladder with a DANGER barricade tape (ECT3RE9).
