Advantages of the 7 x 19 galvanized cable

  • 7 x 19 construction: many fine wires, a flexible and manageable cable, easy to install.
  • Minimum breaking strength of 64 kN (about 14,400 lb).
  • Galvanized steel protected by a zinc coating: moderate cost, ideal for general use.
  • Factory-swaged cable, ready to mount on the system head.
  • 9.5 mm (3/8 in) diameter compliant with federal standard RR-W-410.
  • Wide choice of lengths, from 10 to 600 ft, to match the ladder height.

Specifications of the galvanized fall-arrest cable

  • Diameter: 9.5 mm (3/8 in).
  • Construction: 7 x 19 (seven strands of nineteen wires), straight preform.
  • Metal: galvanized steel, silver color.
  • Minimum breaking strength: 64 kN (about 14,400 lb).
  • Compliant with RR-W-410; used with a detachable sleeve, it forms part of an ANSI Z359.16 compliant system.

Role of the cable in the Lad-Saf vertical system

The cable is the fixed lifeline of the Lad-Saf system: the user's detachable sleeve slides along it and locks instantly in the event of a fall. The cable attaches to the system head at the top of the ladder and is tensioned at the bottom, while cable guides hold it along the path, at about one guide every 30 ft.

Metal consistency across the whole fall-arrest system

A Lad-Saf system is assembled with a single metal from top to bottom. You never pair a stainless head with a galvanized cable, or a cable with guides of a different metal, to avoid galvanic corrosion and ensure longevity. For a consistent galvanized assembly, pair this 7 x 19 galvanized cable with a galvanized system head and galvanized cable guides.

Choosing between 7 x 19 and 1 x 7 cable

The 7 x 19 construction uses many fine wires for a more flexible, manageable cable, a little easier to install, with slightly lower breaking strength. The 1 x 7 construction uses fewer, larger wires: the cable is stiffer and even more abrasion-resistant. Choose 7 x 19 galvanized when flexibility and handling matter, in standard environments.

Applications of the cable on fixed ladders and towers

Vertical access on fixed ladders in utilities, wind energy, oil and gas, power transmission, telecommunications and industrial structure maintenance. Galvanized suits standard-environment installations, indoors or sheltered outdoors.

Inspection of the lifeline cable

Inspect the cable before each use: check for broken wires, kinks, corrosion, wear or damage to the end swages. Remove any damaged cable from service and have the system checked by a competent person at the required frequency.

Maintenance of the galvanized fall-arrest cable

Keep the cable clean and dry, away from harsh chemicals. Store it flat or coiled without kinks. Any repair or component replacement must be performed by 3M DBI-SALA or a qualified person.

FAQ about the Lad-Saf 7 x 19 galvanized swaged cable

Which sleeve should be used with this cable ?

A detachable Lad-Saf X2 or X3 sleeve: this is required for the system to comply with ANSI Z359.16.

How many cable guides should be provided ?

One guide every 20 to 40 ft, with a recommendation of about one guide per 30 ft.

Can I mix galvanized and stainless on the same system ?

No. The whole system must be the same metal to avoid galvanic corrosion: cable, head and guides all galvanized together.

Which cable length should I choose ?

Choose the length according to the ladder or structure height, from 10 ft (3 m) to 600 ft (182.9 m). Select it from the drop-down menu.

What is the difference with the stainless version ?

This galvanized cable (7 x 19) is more flexible and more economical, ideal in standard environments. The stainless version (1 x 7) is stiffer and more corrosion-resistant, for harsh settings and seaside.
