The Miller Twin TurboLite self-retracting lanyard system is a twin tension-anchored fall arrest device fitted with two identical self-retracting lanyards (model MFL/12/Z7/9FT). These two devices let the worker stay tied off at all times while moving from one anchorage point to another — the "100% tie-off" principle — providing the greatest number of anchorage points and saving time.
Each lanyard has a polyester webbing with a Vectran core, highly resistant to abrasion and harsh environmental conditions. Dimensions of each lanyard: thickness 1/16 in (1.5 mm), width 1 in (25.4 mm), length 9 ft (2.74 m). The system has two built-in SofStop energy absorbers, located near each carabiner, which deploy over a distance of 2 ft (0.61 m) during a fall.
The webbings have a device that prevents full rewind: the portion remaining outside the housing measures 24 in (0.61 m), which makes removal easier and avoids excessive tightening near the housings. The system is equipped with a G2 connector that installs under the harness D-ring webbing: it frees the dorsal D-ring, allowing a rescue or a connection to a self-retracting lifeline. Consult the manufacturer's manual for compatible harness models.
This twin system combines continuous "100% tie-off", the lightness of the TurboLite and the versatility of the G2 connector.
The G2 connector installs under the harness D-ring; check harness compatibility in the Miller manual. The anchorage must withstand a force of 5000 lb. The user must assess the fall distance and the clearance below the worker, accounting for the absorber deployment (2 ft).
The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. The worker must check the retraction and locking of both webbings, the fall indicators, the carabiners, the G2 connector, and note any sign of degradation, wear or breakage. Replace the equipment at the first sign of failure. This system should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the worker, according to Miller's conditions. Any equipment that has withstood a fall or an impact must be taken out of service. Sylprotec offers a fall protection inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.
For cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C). Do not use bleach or abrasive or chemical products. Keep the mechanisms clean and dry. Air dry, without excessive heat, in a clean environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and to any source of contamination.
The two self-retracting lanyards let the worker connect the second before detaching the first during a transfer, keeping the worker always secured ("100% tie-off").
The G2 connector installs under the harness dorsal D-ring webbing and frees that D-ring, allowing a rescue or a connection to a self-retracting lifeline.
SofStop is Miller's energy-absorbing system built into each TurboLite; it reduces the arrest force experienced by the worker during a fall, with a 2 ft deployment.
