Nano-Lok DBI-SALA 3M self-retracting lifeline with anchorage hook, 6 ft webbing

3M purchase code: 7012818593, model: 3101220

The Nano-Lok self-retracting lifeline (SRL) by DBI-SALA 3M (model 3101220), with a length of 6 ft (1.8 m), is a compact and lightweight fall arrest device designed for personal protection of workers at height. Unlike a conventional energy-absorbing lanyard, this self-retracting device keeps the webbing taut at all times and locks instantly as soon as a fall is detected thanks to its speed-sensing braking system, greatly reducing the fall distance. Its Dyneema polyester webbing and thermoplastic housing make it a versatile choice for general industry, construction, oil and gas, transportation, utilities and wind energy.

This single-leg model connects by an anchorage hook at the end of the line, while the Nano-Lok connector attaches to the dorsal D-ring of the harness. Equipped with IRF (radio-frequency identification) technology, it is compatible with inventory and inspection management systems. A high-capacity external energy absorber with a fall indicator completes the assembly.

Advantages of the Nano-Lok self-retracting lifeline

This compact SRL gives the worker great freedom of movement while reducing the arrest distance in the event of a fall. Its lightweight design limits fatigue during long workdays.

  • Transportation and utilities
  • Wind energy and structural work

Carabiners and connectors

The device is fitted with an anchorage hook at the end of the lifeline and a Nano-Lok connector that interfaces directly with the dorsal D-ring of the harness. The carabiners are self-locking with double action; they offer a gate strength of 16 kN (3600 lb) and a tensile strength of 22.2 kN (5000 lb).

Capacity and arrest distance

With a vertical anchorage, this fall limiter can support a worker with a total weight of 420 lb (190 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment. The maximum arresting force is 6 kN (1350 lb) and the maximum arrest distance is about 30 in (0.76 m). A minimum clearance below the worker's feet of about 4.5 ft (1.4 m) is required; consult the manufacturer's manual for the exact clearance based on the configuration.

Housing and materials

The compact housing is made of durable and lightweight nylon thermoplastic, protecting the internal stainless steel mechanism. The Dyneema polyester webbing offers good abrasion resistance for general use; it is not designed for hot work or for sharp edges (leading-edge applications). The rotating swivel reduces webbing twist as the worker moves.

About the anchorage point and fall distance

The anchorage point must be positioned above the worker's dorsal D-ring, with a maximum angle of 30 degrees from vertical. The user must assess the free fall distance, the clearance below the worker and the anchorage strength (5000 lb / 22.2 kN). This lifeline is not designed for horizontal applications or for sharp edges. For more information, consult the manufacturer's manual.

Retractable manual fall arrest distance

Self-retracting lifeline inspection

The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. The worker must check the retraction and locking of the webbing, the fall indicator, the carabiners and anchorage hook, the stitching, and note any sign of wear, burn or breakage. This SRL should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the worker, according to the manufacturer's frequency and conditions. Any equipment that has withstood a fall or an impact must be taken out of service. Sylprotec offers a fall protection inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.

Self-retracting lifeline maintenance

For cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C). Do not use bleach or abrasive or chemical products, which alter the fibres. Keep the mechanism clean and dry and remove welding or grinding residue. Air dry, without excessive heat, in a clean environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

FAQ about the Nano-Lok self-retracting lifeline

What is the capacity of this lifeline?

It supports a worker with a total weight of 420 lb (190 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment, with a vertical anchorage.

Is this lifeline suitable for hot work?

No. Its Dyneema polyester webbing is intended for general use. For hot work (welding, sparks), choose instead a Nano-Lok model with fire-resistant Kevlar and Nomex webbing.

Can it be used over a sharp edge (leading edge)?

No. This model is not designed for leading-edge applications. For work near a sharp edge, use a Leading Edge (LE) self-retracting lifeline.

Complementary suggestions for your fall protection system

On site, the worker at height wears a full set of personal protective equipment: a safety harness (FPH140114XCALP) connected to the anchor point, protective gloves (G132) suited to the task, safety glasses (YAU0112), a protective helmet (TA14LR) fitted with its chin strap (TA14CS) to stay in place at height, and high-visibility work clothing (VV6986). An unsecured helmet at height becomes a projectile.

To build the complete fall-arrest system, add a second harness (FPH140103XCAP), a shock-absorbing lanyard (FPL1246576C), another Nano-Lok self-retracting lifeline (FPLR3101507), an anchorage connector (FPA822), a RollGliss R550 rescue and descent device with a 150 ft rope (FPLR550), a DANGER barricade tape (ECT3RE9) and a safety barrier (EPT999) to mark off the work zone. These items are also listed under Accessories at the bottom of the page.
